Pictures galore!
This was one of those crazy event-filled days. Unlike most other days, I actually had my camera in tow and two lenses, and took some 360 pictures throughout the day. Furthermore, we got home fairly early, so I’ve now gone through them all, and thrown the not-too-shabby-ones onto PicasaWeb… which means: Click on the photos below to see the album of photos (I’ve broken them down by event).
So what were all these events? Well, for one thing today was University Day, where the ‘public’ is invited to come and visit the university between 11 am and 4 pm and see what’s on offer. To pull people in, and liven up the day, there was lots of stuff to do, and quite a few performances and talks. Today was also ‘Celebrate Einar’s 30th birthday’, aka ‘Steinunn and Einar invite both their families for a fantastic lunch’. And to top the day off, we finally went and visited Guðrún and Snorri, whose son, Bragi, is a few hours short of three weeks old.
Now for the photos. First up: Nökkvi playing ‘Japan pop’ in the main building at 11:30 am this morning. It was very early and not a lot of people had started arriving. (Nökkvi tells me there were a lot more people there later in the day when they re-played their gig.) They played three cool/fun songs and I snapped some photographs. Afterwards I walked upstairs with Nökkvi to visit the ‘Japan studies’ room, where he wrote my name out in Japanese.

I left the party early to go stand by the Electrical and Computer Engineering table in Askja (building name) to answer questions people might have about the department, in the hopes of enticing people to apply to the department and take final exams, because then we get paid! 🙂 Thankfully a large group of our students were there to answer questions from visitors (because, lets face it, it’s been a long time since I did undergrad, and my memory fails me on the details), and they had with them a lot of stuff to show people. Pétur, Signý, Fannar and Nökkvi showed up towards the end, and I took some photos with my 50mm lens. Yay!

Finally, because that wasn’t enough excitement for one day, we then brought dinner-making materials to Guðrún’s and Snorri’s, to a) make dinner, and b) to oooh and ahhh over their three week old son, Bragi, who is an extremely handsome boy!
