Graduation Trip, Mr. Weeding & Gorgeous Days
[Photos taken 01 – 07 June 2022, posted online 21 January 2023. After multiple weeks of an unusually deep freeze, with multiple days in a row at -12C/10F, this weekend is The Big Thaw. ]
With Anna on a graduation trip in Mexico, the house was a little emptier than usual. The days were filled with weeding (aka Bjarki’s hunt for money), I attended a choral performance, the kids’ school closed for the summer, we visited the house in Skorradal for a long weekend (where an epic mowing job awaited in glorious weather), and I socialized with the people at work. (60-ish images total)

Bjarki discovered (in a moment of maternal weakness) that he could get paid for weeding the back-yard, and all of a sudden my weeding-load went down dramatically. (Emma will have to wait a few years, she’s a bit too young).
It didn’t take long for Bjarki to rope a friend of his into the yard-work gang. Yes, they both got paid.
We got actual photographic proof of Anna’s continual existence.

About to enter Digraneskirkja (church) for a choir recital.
This is Samkór Reykjavíkur, and it turned out that I knew quite a few members.
My brother, the singer, with his very pregnant wife!
We lived vicariously through Anna’s snapchat videos. Oh, look: PALM TREES!
Like all resorts worth their salt, this one had performances every night. Here the acrobats are practicing.

The closing ceremony of the younger kids’ school. First time in a looong while that parents had been allowed to crowd into the gymnasium!
Singing the school song. Yes, your eyes are correct, they’re using an old-style projector and a transparency to display the lyrics!
Afterwards there was a little festival on the school grounds. Sadly it was raining, oh well.
Bjarki´s turn manning the mini-snack-store, as his year began collecting money for their 10th grade graduation trip in a year’s time.
Biking daredevils came to perform tricks. Yes, the biker made it over and across the kids sitting between the ramps!
Emma checking out one of the wet bouncy castles.
Mr. Weeder back in action, excited at the prospect of money.
Passing the school grounds on an evening walk.
Bjarki was there shooting hoops.
Meanwhile in Mexico there was a trip to a fun-park in the jungle…
… and pouring rain with thunder and lightning in the evening.

I noticed some action going on at a nearby house, turns out they were getting a new window!
Mr. I Want Money.
The perennial problem: what to do about the small baby trees that I find when weeding?
Summer flowers, check.
More flowers, check.
We drove to the summer house, and found that the grass desperately needed mowing. (Finnur’s allergic to grass, so mowing is mostly on me.)
Making slow and steady progress around 8 pm.
Dinner with a view.
Trampoline up and in use.
Love this view.
Mr. Yardwork earning more money.
A well deserved hot-tub at the end of the day (this is taken at midnight). As usual, Finnur had somehow convinced these two to help with various odd jobs. They’re too kind!
Meanwhile, it had stopped raining in Mexico.
Pasty white Icelanders in the pool.

A nice moment.
Finnur’s artistic muscles getting a workout.
Flipping on the trampoline.
We dug out Alhambra , and I had fun trying to decipher the rules.
Lovely view at 11 pm.
Looking artfully into the distance.
The last rays at 26 minutes past midnight.
The sun actually went down eventually. It was eerily calm.
Moon saying hi.
The view in Mexico wasn’t too bad either.
Hello ocean!
Apparently, coconuts fell from these.
Whit Monday 06 June 2022 (Public Holiday)
I took these two to the obligatory cafe on the way home.
Wife down.
Finnur began his campaign against dandelion spores, calmly breaking the tops off of the ones in the common areas, to reduce their future spread.
Meanwhile in Mexico, Anna spotted a huge ceiling fan.
Enjoying an arty activity.
How it began.
Close to being finished. She would later add black outlines.

Attending an across-group-project celebration at work. The social budget was flush after little usage over the past couple of years.
Speeches were given.
Then my group went out to socialize a bit more. Of course the nerds had to evaluate the automatic scoring system cameras, and plotted how to implement their own system!
Then we went and got dinner.
Cute wall decoration in the basement.
At home, Finnur showed me his haul.
Meanwhile in Mexico, Anna saw some birds.
