Tenerife Lady-Trip: More Golf, Shopping & Departure Jog

2021-12-03Tenerife Standard

[Photos taken 03-05 December 2021, posted online 03 April 2022. Spring rain outside, yesterday I cleared out the bonfire-sized heap of stuff that seems to collect in the garage every winter.]

In an attempt to “lock in” some of the golf-info we’d gotten during golf lesson #1, we booked another lesson two days later with our very patient teacher. Unfortunately for me, I’d probably injured something when I struck the ground two days prior, so hitting the ball became an exercise in ignoring a flaring pain in my right forearm. I’m stubborn like that.

Later that day we ventured into a shopping mall, for a bit of last minute shopping. The morning after my shins had finally stopped threatening to split, so I ventured out with Hildur on a morning jog. Then we finished packing and took a taxi to the airport.

It was clear that Tenerife authorities weren’t too concerned with infections among the departing population, as hand disinfectant was hard to find in the terminal, and the food and waiting areas were packed like sardines. Masks kept being required though.

The 5 hour flight home was uneventful, but upon landing we had to get a PCR test (free), and then quarantine until the results came back. Finnur had therefore taken the kiddos to house #2, and Adda stayed overnight with me. Around 2 pm the following day we got the all-clear, and that was the formal end of our absolutely wonderful & glorious lady-trip to Tenerife! (70-ish images total)

Friday 03 December 2021

Our view every morning at breakfast. Every time a guest vacated a table, the serving staff put down a new table cloth.
This time we took a taxi to the golf course, and lounged around the golf clothing store while Adda dealt with paperwork. I was bemused by the perkiness of this particular carving.
Walking to the lesson area.
Hildur was the only one of us to make visible progress, as Adda’s POTS was getting the better of her after a highly active week, and my injured forearm was killing me.
The impressive golf bag of our instructor, Javier Toll-Messia.
A group photo at the end of our lesson. We highly recommend Javier Toll-Messia! He dealt very well with us three tall middle-aged female engineers with little-to-zero golfing experience!
Licking our wounds a little bit, but we survived!
A less perky statue out back.
Ooops, we sort of broke the clothing regulations by not wearing a collared top. Then again, the golfing store didn’t have any women’s clothing in my size…
Back at the hotel, a creepy Santa had taken up residence.
Continued licking of wounds, at the patio bistro-bar at the hotel. It was actually quite good!
We hung out at the top balcony for a bit, and the clouds looked worse than they behaved.
Setting out towards the shopping center up the road.
Faaancy.
Good consumers!
Found a baby bubble led-tree!
We didn’t have a grand plan for dinner, just walked towards the same area as we’d eaten in the night before.
We found a restaurant that had decent reviews, and sat down. There was an entertainer there, who at one point gave the most hilariously awful rendition of “I just called to say I love you”. The video of Adda losing it in tears of laughter is available upon request.
Happily, the food was very good!
Becoming less and less impressed by my phone’s selfie camera…
Bizarrely, the restroom was inside a building next to the open-air restaurant, and I asked Adda to pose outside it because…
… the inside was so unexpected!
We meandered through a little shopping area on the way back, it was nice on the eyes.

Hildur and myself were out and about at 8.40 am to get a little movement in before being stuck in a seat for five hours.
Our route, ended up being about 7 km. Hildur was super patient with me, because I go a lot slower than she would normally go.
The seaside is quite raw in places. There was a surprising number of people out and about.
Hello black kitty cat!
Looking back to where we’d come from. There’s a very nice walkway along the seaside, very clever of them to not allow cars there.
Back by the black beach and the looming space-ship hotel.
Lovely colorful houses!
A little bit of posing by the little cove where we’d eaten on our bike-day. Am I sucking in my stomach? Yes, yes I am!
There’s quite a bit of construction going on.
This time I followed Hildur up the 150 steps or so to…
… rawness.
Overlooking another cove to the north.
I think there was sand blowing in from Africa which made the air a weird color.
A reminder that we were actually staying in a desert.
Walking along and towards the sea.
Me and the space-ship.
The cute cove with the restaurants again.
We weren’t sure what the boats were doing out there.
A couple of boats on dry land.
Spotted some people climbing out of the ocean.
We made our way back along the seaside, stopping at a look-out point.
Nice!
At one point, we heard a very loud noise overhead, and looked up to find a flying contraption.
The last breakfast. Boohoo!
Packed at noon, and ready to go.
Goodbye garden view!
Hello airport!
The plane home was pretty full.
We found the Icelandair plane. I didn’t take photos of the crowded lounge and food area, but it was not very 2m plus.
Taxiing for take-off.
Up, up, and away!
Wind being harnessed for power.
We flew north along the eastern coast of Tenerife.
So skinny!
Screenshot from Google maps of the island of Tenerife. We stayed in Costa Adeje.
Meanwhile in Iceland, Finnur and the kids were out and about in the country.
Nice sunset at 6 pm.
Waving towards the UK.
Meanwhile in Iceland: Playing Forbidden Desert.
The road to Keflavik?.
At Keflavik airport.
In line with my sample glass to get a nose and throat swab.
The line went quickly, as the test-takers were super practiced at this point.
It was so freezing cold outside, we had to stop in Hafnarfjörður to charge Hildur’s old Leaf a bit.
As luck would have it, Adda’s daughter happened to be driving by and could hand us their charging key, as we were having trouble installing the app etc needed to charge without a key from that company.
Late dinner (11 pm) was oatmeal and scrambled eggs!

Sunday 05 April 2021

We crawled out of bed late, and lunch was more eggs and bread. By 2 pm we both had our negative-for-covid-19 results and were free to roam!
I used the opportunity (of everybody being out of the house) to start wrapping Christmas presents!! Thus ended our utterly fabulous Tenerife lady-trip!
