School Year Ends, Finally!

2021-06-01Uncategorized Standard

[Photos taken 01 – 07 June 2021, posted online 11 August 2021. I’ve spent the past few days remodeling Bjarki’s room, it’s now slowly looking more like the room of a teenager as opposed to a randomly thrown together collection of furniture from various stages of our lives. The weather has been gorgeous, and some wood-staining has happened.]

With June came the long-awaited end of the school year. Phew, we made it! (35-ish images total)

Tuesday 01 June 2021

Trees getting leaves, grass getting greener… all moving in the right direction.
Anna moved her mini-sunflowers into larger pots, they were looking pretty happy. The nights were still darn cold, so they kept going in and out.
It began looking like my temporary home office was going to be somewhat permanent, so I tidied up the room. Where the guitars are, there used to be piles of stuff that had never made it into the (stuffed) garage. Due to the recent garage purge, there was now space there…

Thursday 03 June 2021

My mental state was beginning to falter with there still being six weeks until summer vacation. So I decided to splurge on breakfast at a cafe.
Going to the gym kept me somewhat sane.
Anna practicing a song on the guitar!
Vaccinations were going pretty well, we let out a collective breath as most of the older generations got some protection from Covid-19.

The sewing machine came out as I tried my hand at hand-making a Fantastic Four costume for the ice-skating-school end-of-year-show.
Attached to sweater. Little did I know that apparently “red and/or blue” was also fine, because most parents balked.
We went out to dinner with friends on super short notice. Eating at home is so passé…

Yours truly said yes when asked if the company could take photos and use for promotional reasons.
Overlit hair of parents about to watch offspring on ice skates.
Animated gif, wait for it to load. While some groups were showing their skills, others circled and using various permutations of skating techniques.
Part of the audience.
Taking the final bows.
All done, and probably not returning for skating school.
Who dreamt up ponies with skates down their backs as a good idea? (Emma chose those at the local skating good store…!).
Finnur took off to run errands, but Emma and I decided to linger in the area and visit the farm-animal and family park next door.
The reindeer having a lie down.
It was a borderline soggy day, and all of a sudden we noticed there was no line for the “driving school”.
Hrm, not great.
There were so few boats running that I decided to skip riding this time to give the kids priority.
This piece of equipment used to live in the mall next to us, and we never used it. Now it’s out in the open air, and spending most of its time needing some fix or other. This time around, it started up, but seemed to lose steam, and they had to wait for it to finish swinging, before starting up again.
Not my idea of a fun time.
These were a good addition!
Water and sand, there is no going wrong.
Time to go home. Emma taking the ferry.
More social living! We drove a hop and a skip and had dinner with these lovelies.
Before driving home, we drove to the waterfront to look at the ginormous A yacht that had been circling Iceland over the past few weeks, as per facebook and instagram posts. Compare its size to the boats in the harbor…
We drove past the volcano, and saw a bit of red, but it was hard to photograph. It’s essentially in the middle of the image, where a white cloud is coming off the mountain.

Morning outing. I look forward to these trees getting even taller.
Then it was fancy-clothes-on for a confirmation party!
The blue people.
Speech time! This party should have been held the week after Bjarki’s confirmation in March, but had to be postponed last-minute due to increased Covid-19 restrictions.

Monday 07 June 2021

At some point in time I was Bjarki’s class parent-contact (or something) and took it upon myself to arrange end-of-school-year presents for the teachers of his year. The following day was the official School Ends Day! Yay! We maaade it!!
