Fall Falls With Walks & Bakes

Having escaped quarantine, but avoiding cafes still, I kept going out on walks just to escape the house. Anna’s final exams loomed (her school is unusual in that there are 3 semesters, each is 10 weeks long) and she began stress baking.

Halloween snuck up on us, but we did manage to grab a few pumpkins from Costco, and carve them. There was no trick or treating, although one household pinned candy to an outside wall! (70-ish photos)

Walking, walking…
I was there.
There’s a sculptor’s gallery in that house, and he has permission to spread his works around the field. It sits next to a school.
This pond took me by surprise the first time I stumbled upon it, as it sits up in a hill.
The church that sits on the cliff above our house.
The days were getting noticeably shorter, this is at 18:40.
As covid wave #3 filled the hospitals, authorities implored people to stay put, and not travel in spite of the upcoming school breaks. It was both to avoid accidents and thus an extra load on the hospitals, and to prevent covid spreading around the country.

Another late lunchtime walk, this time past a school with kids playing.
A river running by the school athletics house. I’m told there’s a whole swimming pool hiding inside.
A nice lookout point over the sea.
An elusive foot path I always have a hard time finding when I come from the wrong direction. While walking a 5.6 magnitude earthquake hit, and I didn’t notice a thing.
An earthquake swarm, where there later would be a volcanic eruption in 2021.

At home, Anna was making actual pretzels!

I took Bjarki shopping for a winter coat. This is the one he wanted, but I deemed not-winter-proof-enough. He still hasn’t quite forgiven me.

A lack of toilet paper pulled me to Costco, where I was thrilled to find pumpkins that didn’t cost an arm and a leg.
Looks like I managed to go out jogging again.

My workplace gave us a goodie bag, which included a restaurant gift card, and an exercise band.
The end of this table has been a pile collector since the day we bought it. Finnur had promised to sort through the pile of tools and stuff in the garage, but only if I made a space for him to work, so this pile disappeared like magic!

Yet another late lunch jog, this time in neighboring Garðabær.
It was a gorgeous day.
People were out and about.
A fairly recent cluster of houses, sitting right on the sea.
Anna kept mining the fruits I’d gotten at Costco for her baking.
Strawberry-sludge.
Concentrating.
These were sooo goooood!

I took to trying to jog or walk while Emma had her weekly piano lesson, as it’s next to a very lovely valley that a river runs through.
Waterfalls.
At home, Emma followed a youtube video from her gymnastics coaches.

Post-work-walk, the sky already pink-ish at 17:30.
I tried a new path around the hill, that gave a nice view of the lake.
Already rather dark at 18:10, and it had started raining.
Emma discovered the peeler, and happily peeled herself a carrot.

There would be no trick or treating, but I walked past a wall of socially distanced candy.
Halloween is here!
I found some trees.
Looking over the upper golf course, towards our house.
