Anna Graduates 10th Grade

After eight fine years at our local school, it was time for Anna to graduate from 10th grade. Two days prior, the whole graduating group (70-ish kids) had gone on a graduation/team-building trip to the north of Iceland.

The trip was a roaring success, and they arrived sleep-deprived and weepy with emotion a few hours before the formal ceremony. At the graduation ceremony itself, hardly an eye was left dry in the house, as parents and past-and-present teachers talked, gifts were given, hugs were exchanged, lovely words were written in yearbooks, photos were taken, and food was eaten. Earlier that day, the school-year had formally ended for the 1-9th graders.

School-ending-festival. That red car is a rolling car, where the kids get buckled in, and then it rolls a couple of times.

Inside the school, tables had been decked for the upcoming graduation.

First order of business post trip-return: a haircut!

The emotional weeping began early, and just continued. One of the teachers got this self-explanatory sash.

After all the diplomas had been handed out, and a number of speeches, and gifts, it was time to eat! The feast was a potluck, and extremely yummy.

One of Anna’s old teachers had been going through her things and found a Certificate of Achievement she’d made when they constructed fancy towers one year. 🙂

The youngest home-room teacher of the three got a new broom from the class, as apparently the too-strong-for-their-own-good boys in the class had repeatedly damaged the old one.

There were three home-room teachers that year: “The Mom”, “The Dad” (pictured) and “The Cool Young Uncle”. “The Dad” supervised Anna’s class.

Anna decided to take a small break from the weeping and the hugging, and played a song on the piano.
