Walks, Visits, and a Rock Opera

2017-04-04Finnur's family, Friends, Hrefna's family, Us Standard

[Photos taken 04 – 15 April 2017, posted online 01 July 2017.  I sure hope the next update isn’t in August!]

The first half of April included Hrefna (me) taking lots of walks, Pétur and Fannar visiting, seeing a rock opera, visiting Finnur’s parents’ summer house, and going swimming, while trying not to freak out about organizing the upcoming confirmation party for Anna. (55 images total )

Tuesday 04 April 2017

Pétur and Fannar came over for dinner and a soak. Fannar turned out to have a small infection by one of his fingernails. so we tried to protect it with a plastic bag. Aaaalmost succeeded!

Notice the snowballs by the tub.

Snow-eating is fun.

Thursday 06 April 2017

Photo taken during a lunch-break walk. The snow had pretty much disappeared overnight!

I eloped downtown after work for a little peace and quiet. This is Sólfarið, which is usually surrounded by tourists these days.

The downtown harbor, while playing Ingress.

Friday 07 April 2017

Yet another lunch-break walk. My office sits right next to an old lava-field!

Proof it was me!

Saturday 08 April 2017

The plan for this Saturday.

I was feeling antsy those days, and ended up on the third walk in three days.

I’d never been there before, but it’s very close to our place.

Paths in nature between houses.

Weird picnic/play area in the middle of “nature”.

Not a lot of houses have roofs like these.

Our neighborhood national church.

The walking path down the hill.

I took Anna out to look at party decorations for her confirmation party. Returned home with a BBQ (not that one) because ours was dead.

Next up was driving big kids to the ice skating hall, and taking Emma (and Arnar) to the next-door farm-animal park. Hello there Mr. Seal.

The piglets were cute.

Customary pit-stop at the cafeteria. If only the food there were better…. sigh.

The ice-skating rink closed at 4 pm that day due to a meet, but getting Emma to hurry out of the non-moving carousel proved difficult. The ice-skaters weren’t thrilled by how long it took us to exit.

Sunday 09 April 2017

Finnur accurately pointed out that the insides of “my” car were in dire need of cleaning, so that’s what I did that Sunday.

Monday 10 April 2017

Another lunch-time walk.

I was there.

Water flowing under bridges in endlessly fascinating.

Tuesday 11 April 2017

Emma cleaning our windows.

Watering one of our roses.

Pétur and Fannar came for dinner again. Minecraft was played.

Wednesday 12 April 2017

Wednesday before Easter Day. The schools were on holiday, so a fair number of kids hung out in the newly renovated kiddie-corner at work. Yes, that’s a climbing wall!

I went out for a super-short walk in the lovely weather.

After work, I found myself at a cafe in downtown Hafnarfjörður, attempting to work on this blog of mine. As has been happening a LOT lately, the computer began updating when I tried to shut it down and leave in a hurry. Yes, it’s now so old that I prefer shutting it down and starting fresh, because otherwise it has a tendency to slow to a crawl.

Thursday 13 April 2017

This was a weird day. It was a public holiday (first of five in a row for Easter), and I had tickets to see Jesus Christ Superstar that evening with two friends. Somehow, I managed to convince Finnur it would be an excellent idea for him to take the kids to his parents’ summer cottage, and that I would drive there after the show. They left around noon, and I tried to fix my karma by cleaning/tidying the house for a couple of hours. Then it was off to work on the blog downtown, and then meet the girls for dinner, and a show! These are the stairs of Harpa.

Adda the Instigator (and JCS superfan) and me.

Kristín also came along!

It was a great show! But I found it funny how there’s literally a blue Smurfette in the cast (with dark hair though).

We went to the top floor to see if we could buy desserts, but it was closed.

We chatted for a bit before splitting up, and I drove to the summer house.

Friday 14 April 2017 (Good Friday)

Modern day kids, while out by nature.

Granted, nature didn’t look very inviting.

Mice on a window ledge.

Bjarki’s hiding by Anna’s feet.

Is this good or bad?

I managed to convince the girls to join me outside, while Bjarki went over to the other house (where Steinunn was) to get a break from his overbearing parents.

Meanwhile, I finished reading this.

Saturday 15 April 2017

Breakfast with grandma and grandpa.

Bears are for hugging.

Anna, and the most excellent collection of things up on the wall.

Since we were on two cars, we made our collective lives easier by splitting the kids up on the way back. I took Emma, while Finnur took Bjarki and Anna on a Pokemon/Ingress long-way-around trip home.

Emma had a blast throwing rocks into Þingvallavatn for a long while. Yay, nature!

Later that afternoon, we joined two of my brothers in the West End swimming pool.

Afterwards we visited the lactose-free cafe/ice cream shop out on Seltjarnarnes. The stuff they had was excellent!

Pétur feeding Breki some ice-cream.

I think this used to be a flower shop?!

The little kids playing happily.

The older kids feeling a little more lethargic. 🙂
