After a couple of days visiting family, Emma and I embarked on a train-journey from Stockholm to Copenhagen. I was feeling romantic, absolutely not in the mood for flying, and wanted to visit Gothenburg on the way. We thus took a late-afternoon high-speed train there, stayed in a train-station hotel overnight, spent a few hours wandering about Gothenburg the following day, before taking a second speedy-ish train to Copenhagen airport. There we picked up a rental car, and drove northwards.

Emma at the train station, heading downtown around tea-time.
The day began with some cousin-playtime.
Bubbles! The weather was lovely!
A huge tower being built!
Goodbye Swedish house!
At Stockholm central station.
Afternoon snack!
Waiting for our 17:00 train.
Right on time!
We had prebooked seats, and they were comfy!
Snaking our way out of Stockholm.
The Swedish countryside was lovely!
Our seats had a table!
Emma’s request from the refreshments selection.
Free fruits and coffee!
A pretty lake with lots of houses after about three hours on board the train.
Arriving at Gothenburg central train station at 20:40, exactly on time!
Our room was nice!
The bathroom was fine.
A sports center with a view of the tracks!
It was pretty late-o-clock so we opted to eat at the hotel restaurant, rather than risk walking and not finding any open kitchens.
The food hit the spot!
We even managed to get dessert, although I vaguely remember the kitchen almost being shut down by then.
We decided to head outside for a tiny bit, and found this massive (fake-leaves) branch in the lobby…
We wandered around the train station shops for a bit before heading back to our room, and collapsing into bed. I tried explaining the whole crown thing and that Sweden, Norway and Denmark still have royals, but logic failed me.

The view from our hotel window was surprising.
The breakfast buffet was nice, but packed with people.
We had a few hours to kill before our train departed, so we stowed the luggage and headed out.
Being on the seaside, there were a few canals here and there, guiding rivers to the ocean.
First stop: Sephora.
A little bit of a w.t.f?
Bikes and a bridge.
A clawed light fixture!
Idyllic canal corner.
We were getting hungry, so headed to a cafe inside a park. The sign told us the greenhouse (palm-house) was being restored for future generations.
Very pretty park!
Emma was getting very hungry, and losing patience for her photo-taking mother fast.
The shrouded greenhouse.
A Swedish house.
We finally found the cafe, and then began the search for the acceptable lunch option.
Swedish meatballs and fish-soup hit the hungry spot!
Yes, please.
The receipt had the code to the toilet.
Feeling rejuvenated, we began making our way back to the hotel/train station.
The wind enjoyed playing with Emma’s hair a bit too much in front of public art.
The wind also like playing with the Swedish flag.
Back on a train, this time making our way south along the sea-side. There were no prebooked seats, more of a first come, first get.
The dos and don’ts.
The bike-compartment.
Public art in the distance.
Denmark visible on the other side of the sea. At one point in time I looked at disembarking here, taking the ferry over to Denmark and picking up a rental car there, but as it turned out, all the rental car shops over there closed super early on Fridays, so that was a no-go. Traveling to Copenhagen airport turned out to take the same amount of time, and had lots of rental car options.
Possibly the city of Lund?
Entering the bridge/tunnel between Sweden and Denmark…
The car rental floor still had covid-era stickers…
Hello rental car!
Thankful for Android Auto.
Driving a gas-car for the first time in a while. Sure it had a range of 880 km, but ugh, so slow on the uptake.
We arrived at the Airbnb house at 18:30, and it was just perfect for us.
We drove over the student housing complexes to pick up the newly-arrived-ones.
Dinner time!
A full table! Three of them were heading to Sweden the following day, so it was like a changing of the guardians!
I lost count of how many Parma pizzas I ended up consuming during that trip!
After dinner we returned to the house to chill for a bit, and discovered that the bedding piles all had sweets!
Checking out all the stuff on the side of the fridge!
Dropping the newly-arrived-ones back at their place of residence.
