Eruption / Security Conference / Summer Housing

[Photos taken 01 – 07 April 2025, posted online 24 January 2026. Trying to avoid hunkering down into a fetal position as the world news barrage barrages on. January weather keeps being weird, we had two weeks of zero precipitation in freezing temps, and now we’ve lurched into spring time temperatures about two months early.]

Back, in what feels like another world, yet another eruption started a hop and a skip away. It was like the volcano showed up to work for a single 8-hour day only, as the eruption ended the same day.

Finnur was away on a work trip until the Friday, so dinner was my responsibility. Predictably, I dragged out the old classics. My job sent me to attend a local computer security conference, which was mostly fluff, but one really good speaker stood out. My conference stamina keeps being low, with doodling a must.

The summer house got a visit and the shrubs there a trim, before spring hit for real. Then life continued as usual.

Watching the short-lived eruption, along with the data from the fiber optic cable along the coastline a little ways away.
Apparently I made lasagna, as Finnur The Chef was away on a work trip.
These shoes showed up at home at some point and nobody claims to own them or know where they came from?!

My own avocado and tomato toast at home, for once. Sadly had no hummus to put on the bread as a base.
Bjarki had outgrown his socks, so I grabbed a few new ones at the store. I try to buy as many of the same color as I can to lessen sorting work.
Continuing down the “things that Hrefna cooks” list: Hamburgers for dinner.
Evening session at the gym to make up for a missed practice. The evenings are nicely quiet.

I found myself in Harpa shortly after lunch, for an annual symposium organized/hosted by Syndis, a local computer security service.
I headed to where people were milling about.
Nerds of the world uniting. There were free socks on offer!
All the middle-of-the-room tables were already taken, so myself and my colleagues ended up by the stage.
There were some finger-foods and drinks on hand.
The best speaker by far was Mikko Hypponen, an old hand in the computer security business, and very practiced speaker. I’m not sure how many laptops he’s thrown on the floor in his lifetime, but one went flying that afternoon, and I must admit it’s an effective schtick when you first see it.
The projector and my camera were not in sync, hence the funky colors.
Afterwards there was a chatting session, but my social battery was dead, so I just retreated home.
At home, there was manageable excitement, like a stray cotton pad stuck in the laundry machine.

Box-push set-up as I arrived at the gym. Such a great way to end the work-week.

Saturday 05 April 2025

The vegetable boxes were a mess after a windy-winter. The cloth we’d bought seemed to be single-season only.
Driving northwards to the ‘summer house’.
Nice rainbow.
A little late is better than when the shrubs are in full bloom.
Warming my toes.
Ugh, I keep meaning to update the lights in the ceiling. With all the furniture moved from where they started, nothing makes sense any more.
A totally random collection of lights, galore. I seem to forget this task as soon as I drive away from the house…

A favorite view of mine.
Another favorite view of mine.
Packed duvets etc for one brother and family arriving from Sweden, to stay with another brother and family!
Taking care of the grime.
Emma experimenting with “nails”.

For a few mornings, oatmeal was made for breakfast. The tradition never lasts long though.
Leakage issues at the gym. (Just the other day the ceiling had sprung a new leak (well, one of the pipes in the ceiling), which meant all the hot water got turned off. That was a very refreshing shower!)
