Knitting Headbands / Wardrobe Updated / Gymming

[Photos taken 11 – 20 November 2024, posted online 30 March 2025. There was a partial solar eclipse this morning!]

There were forest walks and hanging out at one of the universities, shuttling kids, a new monitor that surprisingly had opinions, repeated starts of a second headband, impromptu dinner with a friend, a long-ago organized lunch with Finnur’s family, gym attendance, finally finished updating the wardrobe situation for our linens, paid attention to Emma’s hair-styling adventures, and attended a sewing club.

Nature bathing, and spotted a bent tree.
Picking Bjarki up from school. The neighborhood was originally designed to be very pedestrian-friendly. The bus further away is stopped by a bus stop, outside an elementary school. There is only one lane there, so it completely blocks any other cars from passing it. As a result, you can get extra unlucky, having to wait for multiple buses stopping before getting to go through the opening. Most of the time I go the longer way around to avoid his particular spot, but that way was closed for a while this winter due to road construction.
Yes, it’s late on 11 November and the temperature outside is 12C / 54F. We’re so screwed.

Mmmm… nature!
Anna’s final exam prep continued. I wish I had been that organized.
I discovered I was entitled to an equipment grant from my union, so I went and bought a decent monitor for my own personal use. Sometimes the small laptop screen just isn’t enough screen real estate! Imagine my surprise though when it turned out the monitor had it’s own operating system!!!?!

Moving for my mental and physical health!
Fresh fruit in a box!
I still had more headband-yarn, so I decided to make a new one by just sort of making up a recipe.
Almost two hours later is was looking decent.
Hmmm… not really liking how it looks on a head though.
At least I did a better job a joining the ends this time around!

Thursday 14 November 2024

I totally mis-read my calendar… I was certain I was going to dinner and then the theater with a group of friends, but when I arrived outside the dinner place, I double-checked the date and sure enough, I was off by a week! So, I phoned a friend who I hadn’t seen in a while, and asked if she’d like to save my dignity by joining me for dinner? It was either that or arriving back home with my metaphorical tail between my legs. Happily she was up for a random dinner outing!
Christmas-decorations already up, as darkness was taking over.

Friday 15 November 2024

I decided to redo the headband from two days prior… thankfully it was very easy to unravel.
Made up a new pattern ,this time incorporating some black yarn that had appeared in my bag… and decided it was no good.
Another attempt at making up a pattern… It looked too much like signage.
I wasn’t 100% happy with this random thing either, but I figured it was the best I’d be coming up with that evening and kept going.

Emma experimenting with hair-styling.
Anna being Anna.
Downtown to eat a festive lunch with Finnur’s family.
Enticing!
This restaurant is absolutely under siege for most of November and December. We were kindly asked to get moving after hanging out for our designated two hours.
I’d missed the gym practice the day before, so I decided to play catch-up. This is 2×35 (weights) + 20 (bar) = 90 kg .
Lifting in the shadows… 3 x 90 kg squatting. I’m beginning to like squatting more than I did, but I’ve yet to truly master it. It involves a lot of moving parts!
Later that day…
Acceptable.
I’ve yet to really start working with multiple colors… maybe one day!

Sunday 17 November 2024

Time to continue with yet another side-quest. Assembling Ikea drawers…
Open-air drawers for our linens, and open-air shelves for things that have a tendency to linger on the floor. I’d call that a success!
Ties got their own drawer…
… somewhat randomly surrounded by our luggage bags. We’ve kept them in the garage, but they take up a lot of space there, and can be a pain to get to when the garage gets into an overflowing state.
Yum, banana bread!

Monday 18 November 2024

Yeah, baby!
I was asked to buy noodles… which ones do you want people?!
No noodles for me, as I had a sewing club, yum!
Walking home after the sewing club. It was a nice evening!

Tuesday 19 November 2024

Back to prowling through a forest. I found a cement-encased hot-water conduit.
Taking lunch up to the teachers-lounge via the elevator.
More hair-styling adventures.

The gym was updating the entry gates.
The reality hiding inside the boxes.
