[Photos taken 19 – 25 October 2024, posted online 18 February 2025. I’ve caught some virus, which has me in a limbo of body is sick/not-very-sick but my brain isn’t really braining. Expect weirdness.]
Finnur’s year-long project to replace the open fireplace at the summer house with an enclosed one, finally got almost completely finished, with the help of some good friends. Before returning to town, we visited the frisbee golf course in nearby Hvanneyri with Emma. It was a good one!
Accepting my friend’s offer to come play in her data-playground, I got busy restarting the coding part of my brain. Turns out the AI Github Copilot is amazeballs.

It’s an enclosed and working fireplace!
Before leaving for the summer house earlier that day, I tipped over the compost-bucket that had filled with rain over the summer, in an attempt to drain it so I could lift and empty it. Baby-steps.
Coffee and a not very exciting sandwich on the way out of town.
Autumn-y shrubbery. I’ve never gotten around to figuring out what to do with these random pots out there that the previous owners left behind.
Sometime that afternoon I collapsed into a heap on the sofa, fighting some mild bug.
Manly-man screwing things.
Seeing how the cover fits…
Introducing Emma to the game of Set. We had visitors coming over for new-year’s that I knew would absolutely smoke our behinds in this game (as would come to fruition, they’ve practiced A LOT!) but I figured I should at least give Emma a tiny start.
The final push, after dinner, to install the cover. Good job all!

One day I might get my act together and buy a better set of shelves for that wall… It is weird how as soon as I exit the summer house, it stops existing in my head, and then when I enter it again, the to-do list is instantly populated, and I get annoyed at not remembering all the things while in town.
Some of the berries were looking a bit sad after freezing. The birds would still eat them!
Sneaky Finnur shot outside the trees, instead of through the tunnel, which turned out to be the better way.
Emma is a surprisingly good thrower.
There was no resisting the “monkey swing”.
The local elementary school.
Back to where we started, time to head onwards.
Late-lunch-time in Borgarnes. This view never gets old.
Neither does this one.
Emma located some gnomes.
Yes, please!
I’m a bit of a sucker for these, but I restrained myself!
Fall-flowers.
We made it home in one piece, on this beautiful day.
I was gifted a hand-made knitting accessory!
The recipient of the sweater trying it on so I could gauge how long to make the sleeve-hems.

Evidence of game-playing on the PS5… the sofa is half-way across the floor!
Out of frustration when putting things away, and nothing fitting, I spent some time purging the plastic-container drawer of things that haven’t gotten used in the past couple of years, as the kids are no longer attending summer-camps en-masse.
Being immunocompromised (via medication) I went in for a flu-and-covid-shot.
About 20 minutes after receiving my shots, while driving, I started feeling weird in my throat, which I’ve sort of come to associate with reflux / nervous-system panic, but no matter how much I tried to ignore it, it kept going. I went into the clinic again just to see if it was “actually anything”, but as I was sitting there the feeling slowly subsided. The blood pressure reading wasn’t great though, but as I was apparently not at risk of imminent death, I was told to go home and rest.
The beauty of teenagers.
I needed a profile picture, so I set up this broom as a focal point while setting up my gear.
I wasn’t really thrilled with any of the photos I got (timer on the camera), but I’ve been too lazy to repeat the process.

This was probably the least sick I’ve gotten from the shots. The morning was a bit iffy, but then I rallied, and went about my day pretty much as usual.
I found a gorgeous notebook for my new adventures.
Finnur had stayed behind in the summer house to re-spray-paint the fire-place-covers, so I apparently made dinner.
Only one sleeve to go!

I hauled Emma to Ikea to check out their selection of desk chairs.
Assembly in progress.
For future reference!
Also in the car were some parts to more laundry organizing at a brother’s place. In typical Ikea fashion, not all of the parts we needed were available.

I’d missed the gym practice earlier in the week, so I redid it this Thursday. I maxed out at 120 kg for the deadlift, attempted 130 kg, but my lower back said “not a good idea right now” so I bailed.
The view out to the white sandy beach, and sea-swimming area.

Plenty of rain at 08:30 in the morning.
Clearing the drains was easy, I wasn’t really looking forward to clearing these of ice, but it would get done.
Nature-bathing in the “old” forest on my way to my squatting-site. The tallest trees are new being felled to keep the landing strips at the airport open.
It’s very nice to park as far away as possible from the big building, then take a 10 minute walk into the forest before rejoining civilization.
There is a bird on the ground there, but good luck finding it!
Arriving home to epic cookies!
Everybody out in the hallway doing weighted forward squats…
