July Warmth = Jog, Tub, Sunsets & Horse Camp

[Photos taken 02 – 07 July 2023, posted online 14 April 2024. I have resigned from my current job! Still have a few more weeks to go until leaving for good. Hard to leave excellent coworkers, but brain wants a change.]

July rolled around, and with it some lovely weather-days. I went out for a jog, and even cleaned the hot tub in the backyard, which rarely gets used. The sunsets were of the “are-you-kidding-me”-type evening after evening, we starting subscribing to fruit deliveries, the earth rumbled, and Emma finished yet another horse-camp session.

At the tail end of my 5k jog I found the cave-let (Maríuhellar) that is a few steps away from a previous jog-route, but I only recently discovered existed.
The start of the jog. It evolves into trees mostly on the left (hillside), and lava-features on the right (lava-field-side).
It’s also an excellent bike-trail!
Rocks and teenage/young-adult-trees.
Instead of running back and forth, I took a right turn onto a path through the extensive lava field. It’s quite close to civilization.
Lava landscapes being hidden by vegetation.
At the edge of civilization.
I’m hoping not everything gets built over by houses…
At home it was time for a tub-cleaning.
Clean! Time to fill the tub.
Clouds rolling in.
Dinner company!
Emma playing with water, while I played with my camera.
My own dip in progress.
Sun status at 22:25 in the evening. The windows desperately needed a cleaning, but since they get sanded right up again, the effort almost doesn’t seem worth it.

Looking through the glass oatmeal container jar…
Toasty outside!
Bjarki recovering his electric scooter at the end of the day that he’d misplaced while being side-tracked. There was a mild panic.
I caved and cleaned the windows with the magnet-gadget.
Cheating anyway by taking a photo outside the window at 23:37.

Gymming at 08:32. Sweating happened.
Enjoying a bit of sunshine while drinking post-lunch cup of coffee. Trying to hide from the chilly wind, with my back against a car.
Finnur being a champion and high-pressure cleaning some of the woodwork after 9 in the evening.
Big-bed-invasion.

Wednesday 05 July 2023

That morning there was more earthquake-excitement. An eruption would start on 10 July 2023 by Litli-Hrútur, far away from most everything. Volcanic activity stopped on 5 August 2023, and it was in such an remote spot, with unexciting viewing locations that I decided not to hike to it.
A start-up company in Iceland is now offering a subscription service of organic fruits from Spain.
Fruits that actually have a taste, as opposed to the bland versions in the supermarkets.
They deliver via another start-up which runs these pretty coolers disguised as small houses, that you use a QR code to enter and fetch your thing.
Yes, please!
Documenting that I cooked. Happens veeery rarely these days.

The garbage collectors were on their way…
… but behind the usual truck was a van, full of new garbage cans!
Welcome to the era of more sorting! Now there would be three cans: 1) paper, 2) plastic, and a 3) dual-one for organic waste on one side, and non-recyclable stuff on the other. We quickly discovered that we did not have a good place for the third can, i.e. where it would not just be blown somewhere during a storm…
Perfectly-sized backseat transport-hole!
Emma’s feet are now longer than Anna’s (41), but shorter than mine (43). Finding acceptable shoes for her is quickly turning into an endurance sport.
Somebody was procrastinating and it wasn’t me!

Friday 07 July 2023

Another Friday, another end-of-horse-camp demo.
Walking to the demo-area in great weather.
Emma off playing with a puppy while waiting for her turn.
The kids spend the day ‘decorating’ the horses.
… and they’re off!
They went round-and-round, and made the horses turn, and trot, and whatnot. All went well.
Turning.
All done!
A hug.
A lie down!
Heading back to the stables.
Every grassy surface being used as a feeding station.
“Parking” her horse.
You need a lot of helmets to run a horse camp.
Another one for the collection.
Afterwards I went to pick mom up from her retreat in Hveragerði.
Idyllic surroundings! But the buildings are getting on in age now…
Plants in bathroom windows at 22:32.
Seven-minutes before midnight.
