Naming & Restart of School + Hiking
[Photos taken 20 – 31 August 2022, posted online on 07 May 2023 from Denmark! Yup, Controlant ‘s amazing Annual Ball was held yesterday at the Circus building . So. Much. Fun! ]
It was time to name the newest member of the family, and it was a lovely event. A few days later, school started up again, and life began settling into a rythm again.
The weather was good enough to do some staining at the house in the country, and at the very end of the month I went on a hike with the hiking group. In between we met with friends, and life started feeling very normal again.

Naming ceremony in progress!
There were a lot of laughs.
Then we headed inside to eat good stuff!
Gorgeous cake made by a relative!
The oldest family member and the youngest.
Adorable card drawing by Jóhanna.

Siblings.
Four generations!
Cuteness!
Big fireworks visible and audible from downtown, this was the grand finale of the annual big Culture Night.

It was a gorgeous day, and I managed to drag myself out for a jog.
Flowers in full bloom at our friends’ house.
Perfect weather for a little dip in the hot tub.

Walking to school for the first day of school, mostly to get the time schedule.
First time in a long time where the parents were welcome into the school building, it was nice to be back to normal.
We managed to score music lessons for Emma and Bjarki at just about the same time, which cut down on kid-shuttling.
Back in the gym for a bit, that looks like 80 kg.
Wednesday 24 August 2022
Bjarki about to take off for the actual first full day of school.
The sewing club held a session, sewing chat and eating good food.
The old Junior College graduation group photo that somebody found somewhere. What to do with such an item?!

Almost certainly picking Bjarki up from the swimming pool downtown.
The skyline-defining church of Reykjavik.

En route to the house in the country.
Mr. Fix-It at work. The drain from the roof has never quite been waterproof, and the timber needed some extra love and attention.
Mr Fix-It and guests.
I decided it was time to cut some of the branches leading to the trampoline platform.
Trampolines are good fun!
Thinking about getting an outdoor sofa…
Glass-sand-blower-artists looking over their work.

Getting the color juuust right!
I grabbed some berries from the shrubs out front, and made a jam later.
Anna harvested som rhubarb.
Then we drove to town to attend a 3 year old’s birthday party!
Much less fun was our laundry machine that started having trouble pumping out water, even though I did my best to clear these hair-jams.

I felt very seen that day! This is always a tricky balance to navigate. Email writing is surprisingly hard to get right. But I appreciate you reading this text!

Ugh, we’d gotten a some gunk blown in on the winds.
Anybody want to put a drain there?
I was sad to realize that jogging on the treadmill in my lifting shoes basically destroyed them. Do not recommend.
Wednesday 31 August 2022
The hiking group started up again, although my attendance this year has been abysmally bad.
Pretty landscape.
Proof I was there.
Going downwards towards a good picnic site.
Moss is so lovely and soft!
Walking into the sunset at 8 pm.
We came to small rift in the ground.
Going downwards.
It was hard to fully get a picture of how steep the other end was. Thankfully it was also narrow, so you could use your hands to steady yourself.
People navigating the last bit upwards with a person for scale.
Emerging from the ground as by magic.
Heading back to Eldborg, the starting point. It’s that dark mound on the right.
Enjoying a little bit of a view at 9 pm. The sunsets in August are very long.
We went up on Eldborg, this is were we came from.
Eldborg translates to Fire-structure, the red rocks are probably to blame for it?
