May-Mayhem: Gardening, e-Biking, Trevor Noah, Music & Friends!

[Photos taken 01 – 07 May 2022, posted online 13 November 2022. I see that there have been no posts since September! Well, October was do-all-the-things-at-home while I was between jobs, and my photo-time was spent assembling the annual photo-calendar. I’ve now started my new job at Controlant, and life’s settling into a more regular rhythm. Also, quite frankly, May was insane, and there have been a lot of photos to plough through…!]

May was very, very busy! In this first week we got some gardening done, I joined an e-bike trip around Reykjavik, there was an event at work, two kids saw the dentist, nature got a quick visit, I went to see Trevor Noah, attended an orchestra concert, and then had dinner with friends!

Yes, the rest of May pretty much kept up that pace! Eeek! (40-ish images total)

Sunday 01 May 2022

This public holiday fell on a Sunday. It also happened to be a nice weather day, so I roped Bjarki into weeding, for money, of course!
The hot tub got a spring-cleaning!
A nice way to end the day.

Wednesday 04 May 2022

Not sure why, but the kitchen staff at work had made lots of tiny croissants for breakfast. Yum!
At 6 pm the e-bike group set out on a ring around Reykjavik.
A part of the docks.
We found a tiny bit of light colored sand!
Siblings, weirdly excited about the tiny beach.
Biking on the northern side, towards downtown.
Every tourist probably has a photo of this “ship”.
Bike-dude.
Zipping past Harpa, trying to avoid the perilous gaps in the pavement where there are hidden streams.
We found one of the coast guard ships.
We tried out the pump-track It was fun, but a little precarious on big heavy e-bikes.
Harpa from the other side.
The path up Þúfa was closed for maintenance.
We biked out to Grandi, where there’s a small hot-tub.
The Grótta lighthouse off in the distance. It’s only accessible on low tide, and when the birds aren’t raising chicks.
On the south-side.
The southern path is a lot less interesting. I used to commute along it back in the day.
We attempted to find a seat at the restaurant by Nauthólsvík (imported light-sand beach), but they only had outdoor seating, and it was a bit too cold outside for that. So we just kept biking, and finished the circle.

I biked to work!
Two kiddos waiting their turn at the dentist’s office.
Oh, fun, tools!

Friday 06 May 2022

Internal pepp-event, to celebrate the end of covid, and the return of people to work.
A lot of employees had joined while covid was in full force, and hadn’t seen any of the machines we make, so some of them got set up for people to get better acquainted with them.
Mingling!
During Bjarki’s music theory class, I took a walk. It looked like somebody dumped a lot of cut grass into the duck pond.
Riders on horseback.
Pretty mountains in the distance.
I roped Elsa into coming with me to see Trevor Noah! But first, dinner at nearby Vox.
Groovy looking dessert
In true Icelandic fashion, we joined the line at 19:47 for the 8 pm show. Thankfully, it moved fast, as the people at the doors had essentially given up scanning the tickets in order to get people into the house.
Always fun to have to walk to find the end of the line.
We had fairly good seats!
The auditorium filling up, and hardly a mask in sight.
Trevor Noah saying goodbye after a great show, laughter is so therapeutic!
The bottle survived everyone exiting just by it.
Glad we parked further away!

Saturday 7 May 2022

Spring concert of Adda’s orchestra.
Clearly enjoying getting to play for people again!
This church is a fun and slightly challenging building to photograph.
Dinner with friends, so good!
