[Photos taken 28 – 31 May 2022, posted online 18 December 2022. After endless frosty days, we finally have snow… all the snow!]

After three years at FG (Fjölbrautaskólinn í Garðabæ), Anna graduated/matriculated with her “student’s diploma”, allowing her to enter university. She did a really good job, especially in light of the whole covid-situation, and months and month of remote learning and zero socialization.

We attended the graduation ceremony, and then we received family and friends in one of the houses at Árbæjarsafn, aka the “old houses museum. It was an absolutely gorgeous day, and almost capped off one of the most insanely busy months in recent memory!

The last ‘event’ of this May-Mayhem was an e-bike ride out on Njarðvíkurheiði, by the international airport. And with that, May finally came to a close! (80-ish images total)

Anna with her student’s diploma.
Anna when we arrived at FG for the graduation ceremony.
About to walk downstairs to the auditorium.
The program.
We decided Emma would not have the patience required to sit through a graduation ceremony, so it was just the three of us there.
The principal talking.
Receiving her diploma.
White hats on!
Receiving award for exemplary attendance.
Bjarki outside.
The graduation group posed for a group picture in the glaring sun.
With a good friend from her previous school.
Mild chaos!
One step closer to adulthood.
Giving teachers hugs, lots of emotions!
Goodbye FG!
We drove over to the party-attic, and prepped for a reception.
Siblings as the food began arriving.
Our hero, Adda, helping set things up.
Can you have a graduation with no cake? No!
The Emma-keepers.
Guests began arriving by the truckload.
Let there be toasts!
Food table ready!
Finnur gave a speech, and Anna a shorter one.
The Cutting of the Cake!
Guests!
More guests!
The view outside the window.
Emma got to try Anna’s hat on.
I managed to finally sit down a chat with the guests a bit!
So did Finnur.
Smiley people!
Siblings.
Pretty flowers.
With great-grandma-Hrefna.
The cake had taken a hit.
Proud uncle.
Four generations!
Proud parents.
Sadly a bit out of focus, my photo-skills were a little lacking!
Emma getting a drink.
With grandma-Ásdís.
About to pop!
And then the party was over! Downstairs there’s a textile show.
Emma decided to walk the long way around to the cars.
The house we were in.
Family photo!
Special shout-out to our helpers!
Sunset showing off at 11 pm.

Life quickly reverted to normal, as the grass needed mowing!
Pretty blooms!
It’s no longer allowed to bring black plastic bags to the recycling center, so the grass got put into a see-through bag.
Anna’s graduation trip to Mexico loomed, and her helpful mother started googling…

Monday 30 May 2022

The dandelions bloomed with a vengeance.
I drove Anna to the airport, for her graduation trip.
The check-in line was monstrously long!
A few hours later I was back close to the airport for an e-bike ride.
The 24 km route we rode, click to enlarge.
We found some old-style houses.
The company’s owner surprised us with soda and chocolate!
Art (aka lone boots) on stones courtesy of a daycare center nearby.
Information sign.
An actual pet cemetery!
A really nice road to ride on.
Looking into the distance.
On the other side of the big road. I hiked around this body of water in my first ever hike with my hiking group.
Riding past a randomly located forestry area.
A second body of water, and we stopped in the adjoining forest area to refuel.
My trusty steed.
I walked up the hill to find a place to pee, as you do!
Nice view!
Lupines going strong.
The road back towards town was a lot less fun to ride, very bumpy, and parts of it had sharp stones.
Getting close to the airport and the location of the old US airbase, hence bunkers.
Impressive doors!
A defunct runway, good for speeding on.
The old airbase entry point. I remember passing it one time to go on a flight to Europe, when the international terminal was located inside the airbase.
All done, time to drive home.

We were happy to receive signs of life from Anna in Mexico, as they weathered the remnants of a hurricane that had churned close by. Happily, she had a really good time!
