Easter 2022
[Photos taken 17 – 22 April 2022, posted online 10 September 2022. Time has gone on fast forward again. ]
After two years of non-standard Easter days, we went right back to tradition: Chocolate egg hunt at home, and late lunch and social whist at Finnur’s parents’ place with most of his family. There were two more public holidays in the following week, for weird reasons, but I’m not complaining!
We managed to complete a few spring-related activities, and kept going to the office! (40-ish images total.)
Easter Sunday 17 April 2022
The joy of incoming chocolate.
Finnur laying down the rules a little earlier. Anna and Bjarki had opted for simply searching for their eggs, while Emma had requested a treasure-hunt-type search.
“Simple” search in progress. These kids always underestimate how devious their dad is.
Some of Emma’s clues.
Anna finally spotted her egg out in the backyard (hidden while still obeying the “you can see it from the living room” rule).
Bjarki’s egg top melded seamlessly with the cereal boxes, but he found it in the end.
Meanwhile, Emma’s egg was hidden in plain sight, and none of us spotted it until her final clue led her to the arts area!
Victory!
The annual sayings went as follows. Emma’s was “Hæverska er hyggins einkenni” or “Modesty is a thoughtful’s mark.”
Bjarki got “Settu ei hól á sjálfs gjörðir.” or “Don’t praise your own work.”
Anna got “Að verja mistök er að endurtaka þau.” or “To defend mistakes is to repeat them.”
Finnur got “Móðir er barni best” or “Mother is best for baby” (!?!!).
My saying was “Barn gefur barns svör” or “Child gives a child answer”.
Then we drove to Finnur’s parents’ place for a feast.
Grandma Anna and Emma.
Food prep in full swing.
The wolves descended on the food.
The younger kiddos got to hunt for candy inside our old US plastic Easter eggs.
Finnur being innocent!
Emma with her candy haul.
Haul examination in progress.
12 rounds of social whist in progress!
The competition for last place was fierce!
The victor got the traveling cup!
Our hosts relaxing at the end of the day.
The five of us!
Second Day of Easter – Monday 18 April 2022
I went out for a decompression-jog. The weather was gorgeous.
New building in progress on the church lot.
I spent the afternoon cutting down most of a few shrubs that had sustained a lot of cold-damage. They began growing back nicely this summer.
These two also got the chop-chop treatment.
First Day of Summer – Thursday 21 April 2022
The first day of summer is a public holiday (?!!) so we went swimming, and I somehow owed Emma an ice-cream (?!?!).
After waiting since August 2021, the doors to Bjarki’s Ikea closet had finally both arrived, and we scrounged up the energy to install them.
Now with doors!
Friday 22 April 2022
Finally, work hired an official barista (the populace has proven to be unable to keep a fancy machine clean and in operation) and gave away good coffee for three months.
More evidence of increased office attendance: cakes!
Mental note that there’s a whole store that sells school-supply-type stuff.
The weather forecast was non-frozen for the foreseeable future, so I got in line to change tires to the “summer” ones. It moved so slowly that I pulled out my work computer.
An hour later I could see the doors. As it happened, Finnur turned out to be a few cars ahead of me in line!
