Bowling, Hiking, Concert & Sewing Club

[Photos taken 26 – 31 March 2022, posted online 21 July 2022. Anna and I replaced our old oven last night, feeling very adult!]

Emma managed to squeeze another trip to the bowling alley out of me, I went on an organized hike around Meðalfellsvatn, saw Stína in concert with friends, hosted a sewing club, shuttled kids, remembered that I have a big camera, and told the kids we were going to Denmark over the Easter break! (45-ish images total)

Somehow bowling has morphed into bowling & shakes/snacks…!
Out of the non-guard-rail-y-ones: Anna came in first, Bjarki in second, and I came in third.
Bjarki had a good day! (Animated gif, wait for it to load.)
The door into the office was open, and there were loud text reminders on the wall about what kind of positive workplace this was.

Driving out of town at 9 am. Mount Esja still dusted with the white stuff.
The hiking group getting ready to set out by Meðalfellsvatn.
There was so much snow melt and rain going on that the rivers and the lake were flooding.
Because of the flooding, we just walked along the regular road.
By an information sign.
Water everywhere.
Submerged boat-houses.
There’s usually no water on the left side of the road.
During dryer times we would have walked along a footpath the runs along the usual edge of the lake. That path was under a lot of water that day!
Walky, walky.
All the rivers were angry.
Quick stop to refuel in a grove between tall trees, planted by the main-guide’s grandparents many moons ago. He’s the one handing out coke-bottles with one of his kids.
Romantic snow.
Snow-left-overs. That is mount Meðalfell (“Average hill”).
Agnes and me.
Due to the weather, two (or three?) hiking groups were in attendance, as other hikes had gotten cancelled/moved.
Approaching the houses on the western side.
Lovely muddy sludge.
The horses were curious.
Goodbye flooded area! Since this was all roads, this was the shortest “all-day walk” ever.
The route according to Strava.
Dinner with a couple of friends.
Next up: Harpa.
We scratched our heads over what was going on in the big hall… turns out there’s an American band called Umphrey’s McGee and it had long since sold out a three-evening-long series of concerts, which is why we hadn’t seen any ads for it at all. According to the door-minder, all the attendees were from the US, and they kept their seats evening after evening. So weird!
We were there to see our friend Stína perform songs from her new album “Drown to Die a Little“.
She brought a dancer! The concert was very nice, you should give her a listen! (Animated gif, wait for it to load.)
I was there!
Old class-mates reunited!

Tuesday 29 March 2022

Sewing clubs were back “on”, and it was my turn to host!
Full attendance!! And yes, I’d vowed to keep the Christmas photos up on the wall until I got my act together and renewed the sofas, as the old ones had begun to break.

Bjarki artfully looking past my phone as he gets refueled between activities.

Thursday 31 March 2022

On behalf of my workplace, I ventured into MK (Junior College of Kópavogur) to give them two industrial food processing machines we were no longer using. The guy accepting the gift took us on a tour of the food & serving school, where this amazing display of newly made wedding cakes caught my eye.
Not bad for 2500 m rowing.
Brother Bjarni training in the background.
It was time to take the studded tires off the bikes. I managed to explode the first tire tube. Ooops!
Emma graduated to Bjarki’s old bike, and Bjarki’s now graduated to the adult bikes.
Sisters in the kitchen.
Bjarki in the foyer.
Sibling photo with the nice camera.
Relative heights is a big topic of conversations these days as Bjarki’s shot up past both me and Anna…
… and on the planner, in honor of all of us being done with covid-19, a trip to Denmark during Easter break!
