Hiding at House #2

2020-08-01Friends, Us Standard

[Photos taken 01 – 05 August 2020, posted online 31 January 2021. It’s been a snowless cold month on our side of the country, the other side is drowning in snow. Very few Covid-19 cases found these past few days.]

We visited house #2 with Adda and Halli and spent a few calms days there. Right about that time, Covid-19 wave #2 began, which meant we mostly stayed put to avoid crowds, which was restful in and of itself (80-ish images total)

Saturday 01 August 2020

The view en route to house #2.
Moving back in time a bit, I found a flower under siege in our backyard.
Also in our backyard was a shrub that I’ll need to remember to cut down a lot in February as it never quite recovered after the winter. Facebook was full of images like these, so ours wasn’t the only one.
Finnur and Emma left before the rest of us, as we needed to visit the library etc. Finally, around 4 pm, the trunk of the blue car was loaded…
… Anna’s learner decal was put in place…
… and we drove straight to a cafe to eat before setting off for real. This was a few days after the 2-meter rule was re-instated, so every other table was closed down.
Good grub!
Anna drove, so I didn’t have anything better to do than take photos.
Aaaalmost there.
Playing a game post-dinner.
Emma being slow-coooked.

Sunday 02 August 2020

The kids played Quirkle, except we never count points, just enjoy laying down tiles.
So pretty!
The trampoline was tuned into an outside bed. The weather was mild, but not particularly warm.
The boys played Small World for a bit.
The big project of the day was assembling fly nets that Finnur had procured.
One frame about to get netting installed.
Installing one frame. They are held in place by magnetic tape, it’s pretty neat.

Monday 03 August 2020

After too much sitting around and doing nothing, I decided to go out for a jog. I started out with a fly-net, but quickly realized that there were hardly any flies around, so it got packed away pretty quickly.
Lake view. There was no wind.
Mountain view.
Where there are mountains, there are rivers.
The birch trees are self-sown, but those evergreens were planted.
Along the road I went. That lake is very, very long, so I just ran a certain distance along it, and then turned back.
More water, and lots of lupines.
We stopped by at a store in Borgarnes, and the carrot selection was so sad that I had to take a photo.
On our way to visit Halli’s parent’s in their summer house one fjord over.
Refreshment time!
They had been up at the cottage for most of covid.
Father and son checking out the trees.
Pear tree?!?!
Playing a bit of golf.
The view is fantastic!
Anna and Bjarki being silly.
Bjarki enjoying being taller than dad for a bit.
Emma’s turn.
Nice view!
We drove down to the sea (this is a fjord, not a lake).
Siblings.
Looking towards the mouth of the fjord.
Adults prefer sitting.
Emma kept bringing me things to watch.
Bjarki giving thumgs up.
An ex-crab.
My lovely legs checking out the water. It was cold.
Pretty colors.
Some kelp.
A job well done.
After dinner at home base, Adda and Halli pulled out a “escape room” type game that you use an app to play.
So. Much. Concentration!
Emma managed to whine out one more Quickle game before bedtime. This was at 9:50 pm, ahemm…

Tuesday 04 August 2020

On this day I attacked the garage which was in total disarray, and then hauled a bunch of stuff to the recycling center in Borgarnes. I was surprised to see a whole car in one of the dumpsters!
By Englendingavík, always a pretty place.
Cars by a house under construction.
I stopped by at our favorite cafe, needing a bit of solo time, and managed to blog a bit. The cafe was super busy, the owner told me the summer had been the busiest ever.
On my return, I finished tidying up, and I could finally enter the garage without grinding my teeth.
Always a nice view.
Anna made a fruit-punch.
Good stuff.
In the kitchen, muffins got made, along with icing.
Icing-heros.
Whoa!
Anna making a flower.
Emma working her magic.
Whoa!
Bjarki with his creations.
A rose!
They were busy for a long time!
Chilling in the corner.
Mother and daughter.
Just yours truly.

Wednesday 05 August 2020

Anna woke up with wavy hair!
It was time to pack up and head back to civilization.
Saying goodbyes.
“Helping” the shoeless one to her car.
On our way home.
Around dinner we went and picked Spori the puppy up, as we would be dog-sitting him for a few days, while mom caught her breath as she was exhausted by his hyper-activity.
At home, Emma was thrilled to also have wavy hair.
Tight waves courtesy of Adda, who knows how to braid with small strands of hair.
