Jogging, Planting, & Dog-Sitting

2020-06-01Friends, gymnastics, Us Standard

[Photos taken 01 – 14 June 2020, posted online 23 December 2020. Yule is just around the corner, Covid refuses to leave, rainy storm predicted tomorrow.]

Finnur began going out for keep-in-shape runs when his old-boys football practices got shut down. I mostly did home-exercises and walks, but one day I decided to see if I actually could do a bit of jogging… and it turns out I did!

My history with jogging has been littered with injury. It was only in my “old age” that I started actually enjoying going outside for a jog with a good podcast, but since then there’s been plantar fasciitis, ankle breakage, shin splints, Achilles tendinitis, and iffy hips. Physical therapy has helped with some of that, but lifting weights has strengthened the whole system, and so… jogging is again a possibility.

We also finally finished making veggie growing boxes for Anna, but the plants went in a bit late, so the fall harvest was not super. Anna also spent a a lot of time with Spori the puppy, as her summer job only began on 9 June. (60-ish images total)

Monday 01 June 2020

That’s me jogging past Anna’s school.
A river runs past the school.
Anna was given the task of repotting the self-sown birch trees I rescued last summer, as their prospective owners were about to come and pick them up.
Surprisingly lively after being outside in tiny pots all winter.
On their way to a different land.

Tuesday 02 June 2020

Feeling incredibly cocky after not dying the day before, I decided to go for a “run” while Emma’s was at football practice. I barely made it back in time for when she was done, thankfully she took her sweet time exiting the building (no parents allowed inside).
By the sea.
Finnur was probably still sitting in the large building across the water.
It was a fishy Tuesday.

Wednesday 03 June 2020

Big news! Self-serve oatmeal was again on offer for breakfast in the Marel cafeteria!

Thursday 04 June 2020

The lawn got mowed after dinner. This is at 10 in the evening.
Shrubbery finally coming alive.

Friday 05 June 2020

This was the last day of school, and Emma came home with a book she’d made.
Apparently the women in the family are triangles, and the men are ovals. 🙂
My group at work went to the racing arcade for the second time.
They’d upgraded to large concave screens since the last time we were there.
We ended up at a restaurant adjacent to a hotel downtown, and the restrooms were in the hotel. I’ve never seen a store display their wares in a hotel lounge before.
One of these recommendations is not like the others.

Saturday 06 June 2020

Checking up on Spori the puppy.
Finnur got to watch Emma run through some gymnastics tricks she’d been working on.
Everybody got a medal.
With her medal.
Later that day, I eloped to our summer house with some girl-friends to spend the night.
One pizza on the BBQ.
More on the way!

Sunday 07 June 2020

In the morning, we went on a short walk around the neighborhood.
Breakfast!
The girls then took off, and I started on chores such as mowing the lawn.
By early afternoon the grass was mowed, and I side-eyed the walking path which was getting a bit too weedy, even for me.
One last task before takeoff was measuring the hot tub, since we needed a new lid for it.
I decided to make a quick body refueling stop in Borgarnes, the town of gorgeous views.
Looking out the back of the usual cafe.
The classics.
At home, I wondered slightly about Ms. Last Born’s thinking…
Really? 😀

Monday 08 June 2020

For the first time in months, a 1. grade classroom birthday was held. It had been so long there were 9 birthday kids!
Emma learning to work a locker at the Rush trampoline park.
Yet again, my little eGolf proved to be just perfect, as my brother needed a ride for a new tv. They had just closed on an apartment!

Tuesday 09 June 2020

Emma posing in front of the roadwork crew that would be resurfacing the road up the hill. I was showing her the way to walk home from her all-day gymnastics camp, that had just started up.
By 6pm I was out jogging again, as Finnur kindly dropped me off by lake Vífilsstaðavatn.
The path was pretty busy, so busy that I mostly avoided it in the following months.

Thursday 11 June 2020

After months of waiting, the repairs on the big pool at Salalaug were finally finished, and this was the water level at 08:40 as I dropped Emma off for her camp.
The water level at 16:10 when I came to pick Emma up.
Emma wanted a photo of her favorite book from the library.
Finnur made good on his promise to make lids for the veggie boxes.

Friday 12 June 2020

Super exciting I know, but the pool was ready but still fenced off at 9 am the next day. Soooo close!
The (bi)annual search for the lost items of clothing after school was closed for the summer.
The haul.
In the west end of town, Anna took Spori out for a bit.
Back inside, and we about to drive home.
More entries from “What is she thinking?!?!”. 😀

Saturday 13 June 2020

Plants in the planter!
More doggy walking, or attempted doggy walking. He was still a rather scared little puppy, and not willing to explore much.
Being coaxed just a bit further… he gave up and moved eventually as long as there were a few of us with him.

Sunday 14 June 2020

Taking advantage of the lull in Covid infections, us siblings took mom out for lunch. She led us on a story trip around the old-old town.
Obligatory group selfie.
When we got back, Anna was outside with Spori. He loved chasing the ball, but never brought it back to the kicker.
Anna about to kick the ball.
The day ended with yet another jog, and more nice views.
Proof it was me 🙂
