Big Celebrations and Quiet Times in May 2018

2018-05-20Uncategorized Standard

[Photos taken on 20-31 May 2018, posted on 22 December 2018.  First day of a 11 day long holiday!]

Towards the tail-end of May we got invited to a Christening, a graduation party, Emma kept practicing biking, we bought a summer house that needed furnishing, and life kept happening at lightning pace! (50-ish images!)

Sunday 20 May 2018

The big event of the day was the christening of the second grand-child of Finnur’s oldest sister.
Photo from when the formalities were about to begin.
There was a large crowd of people in attendance.
The cake with the name.
Great-grandma getting a big laugh from the star of the day!
Many generations.
I took a bunch of family photos as the party was winding down. Here’s one of the two sisters with their offspring.

Monday 21 May 2018

This Monday was a public holiday (Yay for old religious relics!). Finnur kept cleaning the bricks with heavy machinery, as the weather kindly co-operated.
That afternoon I dropped Bjarki off at the gymnastics hall, for a small meet. I decided to go for a walk while they warmed up.
The new gymnastics building is right by a large lake.
A sun-watch.
It was such a nice day!
I did stumble upon this badly maintained small house. Apparently there are old summer cottages in the area that are no longer maintained, and are luring in people that aren’t up to much good. It was about that time where I got a phone call informing me that Bjarki’s cold had hit him full force, and it was time to take him home. No meet for him!

Wednesday 23 May 2018

Free food! But only if you’re a woman at my workplace. Yup, somebody convinced somebody to host a women in Marel event. We jokingly told the guys they could have a men in Marel event, but they’d have to organize it themselves!
I’m not quite sure what the percentage of women is at my location, but it’s in the 20-30% range. It was a nice event, but I doubt it will be repeated.

Emma eating frozen corn, at a quiet moment after daycare.

Saturday 26 May 2018

The next big event was the graduation of my mother’s niece from Junior College. Very well done!
The proud parents gave speeches.
Family members listening.
Bjarki petting the dog of the house.
Poor doggy had to stay outside while we ate.
Well, until somebody took pity on him…
Emma drinking the elixir of the gods.
I was there!
The graduate surrounded with fountains of wisdom.
My aunt and Finnur.
My uncle and his wife.
A very smiley Anna.
Daughter and mother.
Peace on Earth.
A very green back yard.
The book the graduate helped make for her junior college’s student association. It was very impressive.
Bjarki with his great-grandmother.
Pretty flower.
The day ended with a 10 pm walk, probably Pokemon inspired.

Sunday 26 May 2018

On a library run downtown with the girls.

Monday 28 May 2018

I’m not sure why I was home at 2 pm, but apparently I took the flowers we planted outside. One of the plants had grown like craaazy and was really big. So big indeed that it got blown over in the wind later that summer. None of them ever bloomed. Sigh.

Tuesday 29 May 2018

By that time, our offer to buy a summer house had been accepted, and we were to take delivery on 9 June. Thus I went hunting for furniture. Here’s the type of couch we ended up buying.
We also eventually got two of these tall beds to make bunk beds in two bedrooms, by adding beds underneath them.

Wednesday 30 May 2018

Emma kept being super excited about biking, after she’d finally gotten the hang of it.
Speeding down the hill!
Green and yellow, green and yellow!
Bjarki, hijacking Emma’s bike!
I made a quick Ikea run (it’s five minutes away), and was impressed by how much space is in our little car!
About to take the boxes out of the car.

Thursday 31 May 2018

Anna went to a war history museum with her school, as the semester was winding down.
Later that night she ended up eating dinner with me at an oriental restaurant, because we had tickets to see…
… The Rocky Horrow Show. Yes, it was my second time, and it was as enjoyable as the first time!
Old enough for a show with people in their underwear!
Most amazingly I bumped into a very old friend, who usually lives in the US, but was visiting home. So fun! 🙂
