Daily Life of October 2017

2017-10-01Us Standard

[Photos taken on 01 – 24 October 2017, posted 3 June 14 June 2018.   Summer’s nowhere in sight.  It’s warm-ish out there but the sun keeps hiding behind clouds.  Also, we’ve bought a summer house.]

October passed, here are snapshots.  Mostly it was just daily life as usual, with trips to the farm animal park, a trampoline park, a swimming pool, a coffee house or two, Ingress the GPS game posted a challenge, autumn came for real, so did the northern lights, and my workplace hosted a party.

Finnur spent the last week of October was spent in the UK, and the rest of us joined him for a few days over winter school break, which will be covered in a separate post. (75 images total)

Sunday 01 October 2017

Emma out in the wet backyard.

At the airport, waiting for dad to show up after a two-week long trip to Japan and California.

We had to wait a little longer than we expected.

Me, attempting patience.

Finally!

Finnur brought my brand new laptop back from the US.  It was half the price compared to the local stores, even when he paid the import VAT on it!! 🙂

Tuesday 03 October 2017

Picking Emma up from her grandparents’ place at the end of the day.

Rock model.

This birthday party invitation made it into the laundry machine, but thankfully only for five minutes before Bjarki notified us of its existence. Phew!

Wednesday 04 October 2017

While trying to charge my depleted mental batteries after Finnur’s away-time, I ended up at a cafe in upper Breiðholt. Happily it has cozy-ed up quite a bit from last time, when it was overwhelmed with bright fluorescent lights.

Thursday 05 October 2017

Just something to keep in mind. #dailyread

During October, Ingress the GPS game, had posted an in-game challenge (for the EXO5 Controller medal), and I decided to play along. This brought me here and there.

Not sure what these boys were playing, perhaps Pokemon Go?  It was a gorgeous day.

The “secret” lake in Breiðholt.

Myself by a field of metallic art, including three Ingress portals.

Arty art.

The challenge involved linking GPS locations (portals) to make a certain number of triangles. This was a pretty juicy outing for me.

Saturday 07 October 2017

I ventured downtown for a bit of me time. This is Harpa on my way back.

At 4 pm I dragged the girls out to visit the farm animal park.

The train is always in demand.

Choo-choo!

Next up, the carousel.

We met people we knew but hadn’t seen for a very long time!

Such a weird size!

Anna super excited to be there.

Another carousel ride…

Watching the sheep eating, while keeping her distance.

Anna finally cracked a smile.

Emma the sweep.

Of course there was a newly married couple getting their photos taken!

Sunday 08 October 2017

Bjarki’s mattress was deemed to hard, so to Ikea we went to buy a mattress top. Ended up buying this one which has wool in it. Once we unwrapped it, we found the whole room smelled like sheep!

Emma somehow got me to feed her ice cream.

Bjarki’s English is now good enough for him to read these books.

Tuesday 10 October 2017

Brrr… cooooold!

A book Anna wanted from the library.

Northern lights over the house of a friend who hosted the sewing club that night.

Yay!

Wednesday 11 October 2017

More bright northern lights, this time over our house.

They just kept on coming…

Anna arrived from somewhere, and got to see them too!

Thursday 12 October 2017

Pretty clouds as I excited work that day.

Friday 13 October 2017

That day was a “party” day at work. The different innovation teams all dressed alike.  Of course there was a photo booth!

Production also had fun, these guys were making flowers.

Icelandic doughnuts being made.

Mini-golf!

People gathering to wait for a rapper duo scheduled to perform during lunchtime.

Hot teenage rapper dudes performing for old people.

After work there were some talks and stuff, but first, chips!

Chips!

Festive!

Afterwards there were buses downtown, where we hung out at a beer-ish pub, and there was a pub quiz!

Saturday 14 October 2017

Anna likes baking and Emma likes helping.

Exciting!

Sunday 15 October 2017

Emma, probably watching TV.

Giving me a sliver of her attention.

Fall colors in full swing outside.

I took the kids, plus one friend, to the new indoor trampoline park. Getting photos of everybody proved to be a challenge.

Siblings happy with the icy sludge after jumping around for an hour. Thankfully, nobody broke a bone.

Anna outside the trampoline park building. It’s at the edge of civilization.

Later that afternoon we went downtown to visit the city library, and made the customary pit stop at the cafe next door.

Cosy reading.

Bjarki stayed at the table further inside.

Wait, where’s Bjarki?

Ah, there he is!

It’s (apparently) a teenage ritual to try out different facial masks. Much amusement ensued!

Monday 17 October 2017

When we rearranged Bjarki and Emma’s rooms, Emma’s room got a pink wall. Bjarki thus requested a blue wall. That day I stopped by the paint-store, and got three trial colors. Here’s number one and two.

That was as far as we got with painting walls.  The remainder of the week whizzed by, and then on Saturday 21 October 2017, Finnur departed on a work-trip to London.

Saturday 21 October 2017

Finnur took off that day for England. Before he left he had to buy some Icelandic candy (with licorice of course) to share!

His hotel bed in Liverpool, where he attended a soccer game on the Sunday.

Meanwhile I ended up at the Buddha stupa with the kids for some reason (probably Pokemon?).

We also went swimming, which was followed by an ice cream, by popular demand.

Sunday 22 October 2017

Finnur visited the Everton stadium.

Nice pond in Liverpool.  After the game, Finnur to the train to my dad’s where he’d stay for the remainder of the week.

I probably took the kids to Ikea for dinner… I’m not sure anymore!

Monday 23 October 2017

Yet another Pokemon stupa stop I think, after driving Bjarki to gymnastics. It was pretty cold out there, but we’d neglected to put coats on. Emma made do with mittens!

Tuesday 24 October 2017

Emma at daycare at the end of the day.  Also, goodbye leaves, you were pretty while you lasted.
