Ólafsvík Day 1: Arriving and Playground
[Photos from 16 July 2015. Written up on 14 August 2015. To be continued…]
We hadn’t visited Finnur’s parents’ house in Ólafsvík for what felt like forever, so we decided it was time for a revisit this summer.
Guðrún and Snorri had expressed interest in joining us, and when push came to shove, they did! And a good thing too, because otherwise we wouldn’t have done half the things we ended up doing! 🙂
The first day was pretty quiet though. We didn’t leave the capital until well after lunch, so we arrived late in the afternoon. Mostly we spent the first day getting settled, getting groceries, cooking dinner/taking the kids to the daycare playground. (17 images total)

Members of the computer-addicted generation, being forced to sit outside and catch, gasp, a few sun-rays! 😉

Spooling back in time: The bane of my existence: LAUNDRY! Sadly, it needs to be folded before being packed, or it’ll take up too much space.

We took zero pictures on the way to Ólafsvík, maybe because we didn’t stop at all on the way there, and/or I (Hrefna) was driving.

The house in Ólafsvík is TINY. It’s got a kitchen, dining room, living room, toilet, and this small bedroom. Since there are two sleeping sofas, one can still squeeze quite a few people into the house, but no farting!

Guðrún erecting a small tent in the yard for Baldur to sleep in. He slept in because our younger children certainly didn’t!

Finnur vs. the crazy bbq. Well, this is from when it was heating up. The real action began when he started cooking, as the melting fat would start epic fires, and only quick thinking and hurried hands managed to save the meat, time and time again!

While Finnur added quite a few gray hairs manning the crazy ex-gas-now-charcoal bbq, I took the kids to the daycare around the corner, where there’s a big playground.
