France Day 8: Tree Climbing vs. Playgrounds
[Written 25 AUGUST 2014. I hope.]
While visiting a website for Things to do with kids in Lyon, I saw that there was an ‘adventure garden‘ right by the church on the hill, where people can climb in trees, over rope bridges, etc.
Sadly, my right heel was still busted, so I figured I had no business climbing in trees. Instead, Finnur and I split the kids between us for the afternoon. He took the big kids to the adventure garden around lunchtime, while I had Emma and we visited a couple of playgrounds post-nap.
The big kids LOVED the adventure garden so much that they claimed it was the best thing they did on the entire trip!
Once the tired climbers returned around dinner-time, I attempted to go shopping, but finding a place to eat dinner, and then eating it took up so much time that there was no shopping. Boohoo. (Previously I’d squeaked out 45 minutes at one of the H&M stores, while Finnur shopped for groceries, and that was it for clothes shopping until the day we flew back to Iceland!) Meanwhile, I was out playgrounding with Emma.
Google romanticizing the stark reality of playground life.
We went to check out the ‘other’ local playground, which turned out to be a rather sad affair. But Emma did meet some boys!

… even after he’d seen the train that runs on them. Why would you put grass there?!?!

Meanwhile, Bjarki and Anna were about to leave the climbing park. They LOVED it!
We had to walk quite a ways before we found some restaurants, because the restaurant I wanted to visit was closed. But we found a restaurant-filled square in the end, and the food was fine for the most part.
Finnur: “Our last restaurant meal in Lyon (well, for a while), was just like any other meal we’ve had in the last year. Quiet. Peaceful. Serene is the word, I believe. “
Finnur: “Our daughter has devised a three-step plan for world domination.
Step 1: Swallow a spoonful of ice cream.
Step 2: Look cute and innocent for about five frames.
Step 3: Repeat from step 1.
And somehow, miraculously, everyone relaxes at the table, once her plan for world domination is put into effect.”
