Family Gathering at Steig in the South of Iceland
[Written 23 May 2014]
This past weekend, we drove a little over two hours to a small farm/guesthouse called Steig in the south of Iceland.
We were there to meet up with descendants of three brothers, enjoy each other’s company, enjoy the view, enjoy good food, enjoy the animals, and yeah, just enjoy life.
One of the brothers was a farmer at Steig, and both Finnur and his dad spent time there working in their youth. The family still owns the farm, to which they’ve added a 16 room guesthouse.
The weather kept improving throughout the weekend. We drove there in intermittent pouring rain on Friday, Saturday saw lots of drizzle, and Sunday was gorgeous.

We arrived at the restaurant right at 7 pm, when they were at their busiest, so it took us a while to set out again. We didn’t arrive at Steig until 10 pm, and went straight to bed.

Another half an hour later, we returned to Selfoss, where we stopped to lounge in the swimming pool (well, the hot tubs anyway). We didn’t arrive back home until dinner time, and somehow Finnur found the energy to cook, which was awesome.
All in all it was a great weekend, and I was shocked at just how short the drive was, all things considered.
