Ash Wednesday
[Written 13 March 2014]
The kids dressed up for Ash Wednesday (known here as Öskudagur, or just Ashday) and went to school for a “fun day”. (8 images and 2 videos total)

When I picked Bjarki up from school, he’d decided to dump the cloak, and thus turn into a “Gentleman” in his skinny jeans and white shirt.

Meanwhile, Anna went trick or treating with a couple of her friends. They stopped by at the local photographer who has been taking Ashday photos for a number of years now.

For the first time in our neighborhood, the parental association at school sent out a message asking families dole out candy to kids between 5 and 7 pm. Participating homes were asked to put out a candle or balloon, and here Emma is staring out into the thick snowfall, while I get the outdoor candle ready.

Our candy offering. We got quite a few groups of kids, and they all sang for us to get candy. It was quite a hoot! 🙂
