Achievement Unlocked: Standing Up by Things
Emma’s fully on board the train to walking now. She’s become a pretty speedy crawler, has been practicing straightening her feet with her hands still on the ground, and now she’s started pulling herself up to stand.
Getting down again is a somewhat unsolved problems still though!
In other news, Finnur just returned from a weekend in the UK with 14 fellow football fans. I’m thinking I need to start auditioning international football teams in person to get equal hobby privileges! How about those Glasgow Rangers? Or Ajax? 😉
The rest of us survived ok, mostly because Finnur’s parents took Bjarki in for a sleepover on Saturday, and lovely friends had us over for dinner both on Saturday and Sunday.
Annoyingly, Emma’s still having a terrible time sleeping at night. My newest plan is to refuse to feed her if she wakes up between 02:00 and 03:59, and that has been going ‘ok’… except that on more than one night she’s woken up at 2:30 am (screams, hugs, back to crib, repeat 2-3 times), and again at around 03:40 am (screams, hugs, back to crib, x3), and yet again around 04:50 am (drink, yay!), and then she’s fully wide awake between 05:30-06:00 with a poopie diaper.
So yes, she’s usually up around 6 am, but I’ve discovered that I can turn the light on, move her crib so that she’s next to the mirror door on one of our closets, hand her toys, and she’ll play happily for 30 mins before getting fed up and bored. Oh blessed 30 minutes of nap-time. How I adore thee.
Not every night is this bad, but they’re not uncommon, and it’s been a long while since she went five hours between feeding around midnight and waking up. Her most reliable sleep-time is from when we put her to bed at 7 pm, until midnight-ish, but those are only about 85% totally peaceful.
I remember Anna almost killing me at 8 months also, waking up every two hours to nurse for a whole month, so this isn’t a terrible surprise, just really, really annoying. It may be the 8th tooth that is still stubbornly refusing to surface – or a stomach ache – or a brain on overdrive from the excitement of mobility – or just a really nasty habit. Whatever it is, I’m hoping the two hour nurse-blockage will register before too long.
Meanwhile, I’m napping with her both during the morning and afternoon naps on good days, meaning I’m sane, but not much more than that.
This too shall pass!
