Back to School
Gosh, darn, I’m a month behind on posting photos! And I’ve been ‘not blogging’ because I’m always about to catch up with myself. But it keeps not happening.
So, here’s a little entry that’s a little closer to ‘now’.
The most recent excitement has of course been school resuming operations. This past Thursday was the official ‘School Starts’ day where the kids came, listened to the new principal say hi, met their teachers, and got their schedules.
Then on Friday school started for real, but only Bjarki went because Anna had spiked a fever the day before (and she still has a fever). Finnur took him (Finnur: Remember to send me the photos you took See Finnur’s photos here) because I was busy giving a lecture!
Yes, earlier this summer, a friend from the University of Iceland asked me to give a talk on radar at the annual NordVulk Summer School, and I said yes. For those of you that are curious, the pdf file is here: Planetary Mapping From Earth (sorry but it’s missing all the animations so stuff is missing).
All in all the talk seemed to go over well (I even scored a couple of business cards from the USA bigwigs that were there, they’re always so darn polite!) but it did eat up a lot of my very limited brain resources, which is probably why I haven’t been blogging much leading up to it and why I spent so much of today sleeping. But it’s over now, and I have ZERO deadlines looming over me, as far as I know (or can remember).
So yeah, back to back to school.
I took Emma to pick Bjarki up from aftercare and we walked home in the rain. Poor Bjarki was getting a bit tired and hungry so he was not cooperating for pictures, so this is all I’ve got:
Oh, by the way. Finnur took himself and Anna up to the health clinic on Friday to get strep throat tested (Finnur’s been feeling poorly too). But the young nurse chickened out on doing it (Finnur has an awesome gag-reflex) and summoned a doctor. The doctor then lectured Finnur on how 10% of people always have strep in their throat (but that it is not treated) and then claimed there was no need to test them and sent them home Now, of course, Anna still had a fever tonight (that’s day three of fever) and I’m going to be so pissed off if it turns out it was strep throat after all. I think it may be time to buy our own strep throat test kits, just to save us the trouble of not knowing and the indignities of begging for being tested. Grumble.
