Húsafell: Hraunfossar and Barnafoss.
[Written 8 August 2013. This is getting comically late.]
On our way back from the goat-farm, we stopped by the waterfalls Hraunfossar and Barnafoss.
I’d seen pictures of Hraunfossar (The Lava Falls) before, but they somehow never quite capture just how odd/pretty/special they are. Essentially, it’s a series of waterfalls that leak out from under a lava-field into a big river:

Quick video capture of Hraunfossar. Click on image to go to the video on G+.

The neat thing about these falls is that the water emerges from the middle of the cliff, and not from the top. So it’s like the stone itself is leaking. (Well, it is!)

The group by Barnafoss (Children’s Falls) which is upstream from Hraunfossar. There used to be a stone arch over it, but a couple of kids fell off it in the olden days and drowned so the arch was demolished to prevent further accidents.

Finnur took this AWESOME panorama at Barnafoss. Seriously CLICK ON IT to go to G+, and then CLICK ON IT AGAIN THERE to see the whole thing. (silly G+ won’t let me link directly to the panorama-viewer, grumble).

Bjarki posing by Barnafoss. The railing was not even close to being childproof, so we didn’t stay long.

There are a lot of walking paths there, but we didn’t venture much further… it was getting late and the kids were getting hungry and cranky.
After all the action, we went home to our summer house, ate dinner, and got the children into bed relatively early.
