Hanging Out
We all survived the first week of Finnur being back at work. Admittedly, he came home early on Monday and Thursday because we had to get the wee one weighed at the health center, and then there was a parent-teacher meeting at Anna’s school. So it wasn’t a ‘full’ solo week, but it was pretty close.
I must say that the days are really going by fairly quickly, perhaps because I’m still spending a lot of time in bed, desperately trying to add a few more sleep-hours to my increasingly more sleep-deprived body and mind. That said, Ms. Bambino is starting to stay awake for longer periods of time, and thus I’ve started ‘parking’ her in various places while I do other stuff. Like the ever-fun laundry.
As of the end of this week, a routine of sorts has started to develop. The mornings are a pain in the butt, with Ms. Bambino napping for short amounts of time, but mostly being fussy and trying to poop/burp/eat constantly. As she gets more tired, drinking becomes more and more erratic, especially since she’ll refuse to eat, even though she wants to, if she needs to burp, and that stomach situation has a tendency to end in a big morning vomit. Also, I end up being somewhat grumpy because I’m still low on sleep after the night. It’s a good combo. Not.
She usually gives up/properly falls asleep around 1 pm, and will be out for some three hours, then wake up again for a short amount of time to eat/burp/poop, and then sleep for a couple of hours more. Around dinner time, she’ll start being fussy again, with more frantic eating (or non-eating because she needs to burp), and general digestive unhappiness.
For the past couple of evenings she’s collapsed between 9 – 10 pm and slept for three hours, then stayed up for about 1 hour, before sleep/eating her way through the night. She will go anywhere between 2-5 hours between eating at night, but so far, only a handful of nights have featured a 5 hour long sleep block.
So yeah, things are chugging along… and we’re just along for the ride.
(P.s. It’s shockingly awesome to be playing “baby” and not have something ‘I should be doing’. Heck, I haven’t even written down a to-do list in over a month!)
