Oh Fun!
I have a sneaky suspicion this pregnancy will be ending much like Anna’s, i.e. getting induced because of developing pre-eclampsia. But we’re not there yet!
Yes, I spent a couple of hours at the hospital today. First off: the baby is head down (way down), its heart-rate and movements all look excellent, and its weight is estimated to be about 3.1 kg (6.8 lbs) which is basically ‘average’ at this age (37w3d).
The rest of me, on the other hand, has been doing better.
The urine sample contained 2+ protein so I was sent home with a lidded bucket and told to collect urine for 24 hours. I also did this a few times during the last few weeks of carrying Anna, and it’s a bit of a pain, but oh well, it makes the docs feel better.
They also took a blood sample to check for kidney and liver functions, and told me they’d call if anything looked amiss (it’s been three hours or so now, and no call). Now, if there was ever an upside to this late stage pregnancy it’s that all the increased blood volume has made getting blood samples much easier. She didn’t even have to use a fancy needle, and got it in one. 🙂
Oh, and as a final flourish, the doctor decided to double my dosage of blood pressure medication up to the maximum allowed limit.
So yes, tomorrow will be spent peeing in a bucket (via proxy), and then I have a monitoring appointment on Thursday morning. I’m thinking the kid won’t be in there too much longer now…
