Contractions…
Finally a wee bit of ‘action’…
Shortly after noon today I started getting mild contractions 5 minutes apart. Around two pm I checked my blood pressure and it was very high, so I called the hospital, and got permission to take my medicine early, and report back in an hour or so. The pressure went down a wee bit, but not much, so we were asked to come in.
We got Steinunn to come over and take care of the kiddos while we drove to the hospital, and made arrangements for Finnur’s parents to house the kids overnight, just to simplify things.
At the hospital I was put on a monitor, and sure enough, there were regular contractions 3-5 minutes apart, but they weren’t terribly strong. The kiddo was also having a lot of fun according to the heart-rate (show-off!).
The doctor on call came by and ordered blood work (which she drew herself, because the midwife wasn’t very good at it) and started wondering if she should give me a different kind of blood pressure medication.
After the monitoring was done we were to wait for the blood work, but decided to go get dinner instead. We returned an hour later, waited around some more, until the doctor came in shortly after 8 pm and gave us the green light to go home.
Essentially I’m to take my medicine a bit earlier than usual tonight, and then report back to the hospital tomorrow morning around 9 am, unless something changes (contractions become ‘the real thing’ or I get a headache, vision issues, stomach pains…).
So, it’s 9 pm now and we’re back home. The contractions keep coming every now and then, but they’re still mild ones. Maybe a nap is in order?
