My Right Foot
(Yes, even more fun stuff about swelling… sorry! My life is just that boring right now!)
I realized somewhat sheepishly yesterday that I’d spent a lot of time on the sofa with a pillow or two under my knees, and not under my ankles – thereby not ‘elevating’ much of anything usefully.
So I spent yesterday in a V-shape, trying to keep my toes up high. And lo and behold, gravity did its thing and the (warning: gross picture) uber-swelling went down. It also seemed to help to down a Gatorade, so maybe I’m also a tad dehydrated?
Here are (not so gross) pictures of my right foot from shortly after lunch today:
The take-away message seems to be that I have a very low tolerance for staying upright these days, and I’ve therefore put myself on bedrest for all intents and purposes. Which sucks, because that means Finnur’s getting stuck with doing everything, which is neither fair nor fun at all.
In other happy news, it does seem like my left hip-flexor was thankful for my crutch-usage yesterday, and it’s much less painful today. It’s still not ‘good’ but, I’ll take ‘better’ for now.
The kids are a little freaked out by this useless mother, with mysterious hip pain (no blood! no bandages!) , and they both had ‘leg pains’ of their own yesterday. Bjarki commandeered his great-grandfather’s walking cane, and made a big show of ‘not being able to walk long without it’, while Anna hobbled about on one crutch, probably doing more harm to her shoulder than helping her ‘ankle-problem’ in any way.
Neither cane nor crutch are really on offer for them today, because they weren’t being terribly careful with them, but the drama was fun to watch… 🙂
