The Amazing Power of Penicillin
Penicillin is awesome when it works. 🙂
Shortly after I took the first pill yesterday, my head started de-fogging and the pressure on my left ear began to dissipate. Sure, I still had a cold, but a cold I can handle – it’s the energy-zapping sleep-inducing head-stuffing I dislike. I slept better than I have in a while, and only woke up with a mild trace of a sore throat. My voice almost sounds normal again, although it’s still somewhat rough and nasal.
To celebrate my new-found energy, I attended a 1.5 hour long yuletide whole-school gathering at Anna’s school this morning, after which I headed out on foot for some yuletide shopping.

The entire fourth grade on stage. A sub-group of them performed the (thankfully short) ritualistic ‘birth of Jesus’ play (Anna was a non-speaking herder, she’s there in the front row) and then they all sang ‘Bjart er yfir Betlehem’ (video is old). All the kids had lights on!

Yes, I kid you not, the whole thing took close to 1.5 hours, but most of it was well done, so it wasn’t too painful. Here’s the full program. It was a bit funny to sit at the back, where the cool 10th graders were, and watch how they were struggling to balance the “I’m too cool for this kiddie show” with “Awww… tradition and nostalgia” feelings.

So yes. At 10:30 the show was over, and I took off on my epic on-foot shopping trip. The first stop was at one of the local bakeries (in the corner of the big white building), and then I successfully attacked Toy’R’Us. Then it was onwards to the “head” of the ‘penis-mall’ where I had a second snack, before attacking Hagkaup. At 14:30 I ambled out of the mall, feeling shoppingly-successful, but somewhat concerned about the pelvis- and lower-back situation. We live slightly below the right corner of the map.

Right about where you see the yellow end-marker on the map above, I stopped my veeeery slow walking to take a picture of the pretty frost on the stones by the path…

… and my shopping bags, and the beginning of the hike up the hill, when all of a sudden I hear my name! To my great surprise, the spouse of Finnur’s brother had stopped her car next to me, and she all but ordered me into the car so that she could drive me home. Apparently she’d spotted me as she was approaching the mall, and could see from my snail-paced walking speed that my pelvis wasn’t doing all that well. Hence she saved me from myself, which I really appreciated! 🙂
