En Route
As of writing this, Finnur’s in Seattle, heading back home. I’m crossing fingers that he’ll make it back in one piece.
Today’s been an acceptably successful day, especially considering that I kept waking up repeatedly last night for an unknown reason. My best guess as to why are breathing problems, either due to the terribly dry air in our room (according to my sandpaper-like throat) or some sort of sleep apnea (non-confirmed).
I was particularly irate when, after caving in at 5 am and getting a bite to eat (there’s no falling asleep hungry for me), my mind went into epically-unproductive-hyperdrive, where one ruminates on problems that cannot be solved at 5 am.
I finally saw sense at 6 am, contacted Finnur and ended up having a video chat while he was busy packing in California (10 pm there). That got my mind unstuck and I was finally just about to fall asleep at 7 am when it was time to wake Anna up.
Once she was out the door, Bjarki kindly let me get a bit of shut-eye before I started working on getting both of us out of the house. I had a morning hair salon appointment, after which I went on a grocery run, followed by a collapse on the sofa at home for a nap.
Anna arrived shortly before tea-time, and soon it was time to shuttle her to swim practice. (Side note: I’ve found that her swim-practice objections have diminished significantly after I started chauffeuring her to the pool.)
While she was swimming, I took Bjarki to the ‘no appointments taken’ barber-shop, where we hung out for a bit before it was his turn to be shorn:
After we picked Anna up (Bjarki played Angry Birds while Anna took foooooreeeeever to finish showering) we went home to the usual dinner-and bedtime routine.
So yes, some stuff got done.
I wish more stuff had gotten done during these 17 days Finnur’s been away, but with 9-ish days being taken up by illnesses/daycare absences and then some other days just recovering, we’ve essentially been in ‘survival mode’. Sadly, this means that my grand plans of kicking some To-Do-List butt never came to fruition, but hey, there’s always tomorrow. 🙂
(P.s. I can tell I’m feeling better because this post is disgustingly detailed. Sorry for vomiting my memory on you Ms. Blog!)
