Slooooow Day
If there’s one thing I worry about with regards to having a kid at my ‘advanced maternal age‘, it’s not being able to deal with the sleep-deprivation as well as in my younger years. Heck, I do really badly already, and the kid’s not even here!
Why so sleep-deprived already? Well, I woke up from a nasty dream at 05:30 this morning (some naughty kid from the neighborhood wearing a face-covering headdress came up to my open bedroom window, thing threw a ‘homemade firework’/’small pipebomb’ into my bedroom as I was screaming no, and then I woke up) and was only just managing to fall asleep when it was time to rouse Anna for school.
Thankfully, Bjarki slept until 9 am (meaning he slept for 13 hours straight!) and after breakfast I crawled back into bed. We played there for some time, before Bjarki kindly allowed me to nap for a bit. We were up for realz at 11 am, and out of the house around 11:30 to go eat lunch at Lifandi Markaður:
After lunch, I made a quick pit stop at the fish-shop before confronting PELVIC ENEMY #1, aka The Shopping Cart. Yes, I think I’ve found my main enemy, and it lives in the grocery store. The lateral push and pull to get the darn cart to go where one wants it to go is just about the worst thing for my pelvis ever, and I’m seriously starting to consider looking for home-deliveries of essentials. To add insult to injury, Bjarki insisted on the ‘race-car cart’ which simply does not go straight, and I end up pushing it on the side, or dragging it. Its only saving grace is that the basket is high up, which minimized bending.
Anyway, we slowly ambled through the supermarket, before heading home. Food was slowly put away, before Bjarki and I went upstairs to slowly put the labels on his toy boxes. After finishing that I’m starting to think that the number of toy boxes is totally overwhelming, and that I should make a few of them disappear. We’ll see.
As I was about to lose my last marbles to the endless chatter, salvation appeared at 4 pm in the form of a boy who lives in the street. The boys played for about an hour, until it was time for me to head to preggers gym class, while mom and Bjarni babysat. I suspect PELVIC ENEMY #2 is walking on icy surfaces, which is annoying because everything is frozen these days, especially parking lots!
I came home feeling much perkier, and we all had dinner. Then it was on to the usual post-dinner routine, while managing a slightly hyper Anna. She tends to get hyper when she’s stressed (wonder where she got that from… hehe) and dad disappearing is stressful. Our visitors stayed long into the evening, with Bjarni doing math revision and I attempting to find out why his desktop computer smelled of burning rubber. I was not successful.
Overall a considerable amount of stuff got done today, but I’ll be very happy to ship Bjarki off to daycare tomorrow (assuming the cold he’s picked up from me won’t result in a fever) for a bit of rest and relaxation and SLEEP!
