Miss Me?
Hmmm, it’s now 12 October and the most recent event I blogged about happened on 15 September. I guess that means I should go stay in the naughty corner for bad bloggers, but I have excuses! A lot! Well, mostly just one.
Remember that job of mine? That I’m no longer doing? Teaching at the University of Iceland? Well, since I’m a compulsive student, I signed up for a three-course diploma-level university teacher education program two years ago. I took two of the courses during my first year (and they were my mental salvation!), but the last one was sort of a whole-year sporadic thing during the second year.
To finish the third course I needed to do a ‘research project’ on my own teaching/job, and initially meant to do a ‘How the heck do people do this job without it taking over their lives?!?’-project. Sadly, by reading research articles on the matter, it really started looking like nobody had a good answer, so I got very demoralized. And quit my job. (I would have quit my job nonetheless for a whole host of other reasons, but this didn’t help.)
So during the summer this final project percolated in my brain, nagging at me, until I finally hit upon something I could actively ‘research’, namely the different outcomes of a student research project I conducted two years in a row for one of my classes, but which got implemented somewhat differently between those two years.
And so that percolated for a while, until I finally sat my butt down on 1 October and started writing just in time for the October graduation.
Two days later, writing got rudely interrupted for two days while Bjarki suffered through one of those ‘all-day’ stomach bugs, vomiting from 6 am to 7 pm, but he was right as rain the day after. I on the other hand had hardly slept a wink waiting for him to vomit all night, so I was a wreck. Thank goodness for grandparents is all I’ll say!!
Writing resumed on Friday, took a hiatus over the weekend (because I absolutely refuse to work on the weekends if I can help it) but this past Wednesday, 10 October, I finally sent in the project, and got a stamp of approval the next day. Oh the relief!! 🙂
So my excuse for the non-existent blogging (and non-cleaning, non-tidying-up, and not doing anything not directly related to getting through the day with minimum fuss) for the past two weeks is that this final project ATE MY BRAIN.
But stay tuned for entries from the month that has gone by! 🙂
