Attack of the Organizational Monster
[Written 15 October 2012]
On this pretty Sunday the whole family got wrangled into a car and taken on a 5 minute drive to Ikea. The objective: Buy more plastic buckets for Bjarki’s room, and try and find some furniture for Anna’s room that would increase her display and storage space, and stem the flow of stuff onto her floor.
As is customary, we dropped the kids off at the play-center, and braved the showroom floor (which is organized pretty much exactly as the showroom in Palo Alto, California, which is a little disconcerting). After some discussion we ended up buying Anna a new corner desk, a desk chair, as well as adding to our collection of Hemnes chest of drawers. Not to mention getting additional plastic buckets, and various other odds and ends.
We stuffed the stuff into the car, and Finnur drove it home while I fetched the kids and got them started on lunch. Finnur joined us soon thereafter.
As this is written, about three weeks have passed since the desk got put up, and the remainder of the furniture moved around to new locations. Sadly, I haven’t yet plucked up the courage to attack the organizational challenge of un-jumbling all of Anna’s stuff, random pieces of which have been relegated to the garage in past months in a desperate attempt at stuff-control. If all is to be well, those bags will have to be un-jumbled too. Sigh.
I therefore don’t have any sparkling pictures of Anna’s pretty new room, although it does appear that the desk is working nicely as a holder for some of the play-stuff that used to live on the floor and drive me nuts. If all goes well, I plan on attacking the remainder later this week. (Famous last words?).
We still haven’t assembled the new chest of drawers, because I’ve decided it will be the keeper of baby clothes when the time comes. It will probably go up soon though, because I think I know where I want to put it, and I’m getting a wee bit sick of staring at the brown flat-pack every time I walk up the stairs.
