A Full Day in München
[Written 27 August 2012]
Our first full day (and my only full day) in Munchen (Munich) was spent eating at different restaurants, napping, and walking around downtown.

We ambled out of the hotel shortly before lunchtime, and ended up at the restaurant Opatija around the corner from our hotel, after discovering that it had a pretty good TripAdvisor profile. We both opted for fish this time, and the food was not bad at all! 🙂

I got so sleepy after eating lunch (I guess all available blood got diverted to the digestive system) that we headed back to the hotel and I took a nap! Almost two hours later, we headed out again on a stroll.

The first of many churches on our way. At some point it felt like the churches in the area were competing in some church-bell-music competition, trying to out-do one another!

Walking into the market called Viktualienmarkt. This is looking towards one of the entrances.

We drifted away from the market, and walked past a few stores selling Bavarian clothing. Sexy, sexy, Bavarian clothing!

We were surprised to find that there was a wedding going on inside the church! Furthermore, large portions of the ceremony were being conducted in English?!

Me in front of the Town Hall – in a new shirt because I dropped food on the other one. Yes, I’m a clumsy klutz!

A little further along we stumbled upon a H&M store, which one is required to enter if one is Icelandic. I had a great time finding clothes for the kids, while Finnur wilted away and was almost asleep on the floor when I was all done.

A few houses away was yet another church, this time the Munich Frauenkirche. It was quite visually boring in comparison with the glittering gold the previous church had.

We made a quick pit-stop at this cafe (tried another one first, but didn’t get any service for some odd reason). While we sat there, Finnur’s coworkers walked past and we chatted for a bit. Note the church we just came from in the background.

Heading back to the hotel. I thought the painted stripes on the house looked interesting. Little did I know I was taking a picture of the local Google office!

When we walked past it, I realized this was one of the ‘top’ restaurants in the area, so Finnur walked in and made a dinner reservation.

Soon we were back at the hotel, where I had a, uh, second nap of the day. 🙂 Pregnant, remember!!?!?!

On our way out after a lovely meal. We saw this cheese bowl being used in our room. The waitress poured a bowl of boiling hot spaghetti into it and rolled it around to create a cheese sauce, pausing for pictures while she was at it. 🙂
We walked around some more after dinner, found the shopping portion of Maximilianstrasse, and stopped at a pub for a quick thirst-quench, before heading back to the hotel after a successful day.
