New Year’s Eve
We spent the last day of the year 2011 in pretty standard fashion. We began by attending The Annual Dinner With Finnur’s Family (and a couple of their friends) at the lovely adobe of Finnur’s uncle and his wife. After eating far too much, and playing with fireworks, we hightailed it to Hrefna’s family where we hiked up to the hill shortly before midnight (also an annual tradition) and attempted to see the crazy amount of fireworks being fired up at the new year.

We dashed between municipalities just as the Annual Comedy Show was about to begin at 22:30. Once that was over, we hiked up onto the hill to watch the annual epic fireworks-display-of-crazy-Icelanders. This was as good as it got though because it took about 5-10 minutes before visibility went down to about 200 m due to excessive smoke and no wind.

I handed my camera over to Bjarni, who proceeded to take the next few photos. Here are Signý and Pétur.

Family members sitting on a ledge. I'd left the 50 mm lens on the camera, which probably wasn't the smartest choice under the circumstances, seeing how hard it was to get a lot of people onto one image.
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!! 🙂
