All Together Again!
Finnur and Anna arrived this morning, as expected. Bjarki and I decided to be good sports and drove all the way out to Keflavik airport (40 mins) to pick them up shortly before 8am. Everything went well apparently (well, aside from that ‘almost missed the plane to Iceland’-part), and they were in good spirits in spite of the 2+7 hour flights. Sadly, Bjarki got very very upset when it finally registered that he would not be boarding a plane today, but Anna managed to calm him down with a well placed teddy-bear. When we got into town, Bjarki went straight to daycare, while the rest of us went home and collapsed into bed. Yes, I was pretty tired too after a strenuous day before, and going to bed late.
We all slept until 13:30, at which time I roused the weary travelers. Shortly thereafter I went to visit the three students that had signed up for a ‘sick’ make-up exam (i.e. they reported being sick when the main test was held). I got zero questions, so then I went to the weekly departmental tea-time. Once tea-time was over, it was back to check on the students. I was pretty lucky in that they were all gone so I could pick the exams up right then and there, which saved me a trip next week. I even managed to grade my two questions that same afternoon, and I’m now free of all exam-related matters until mid-June, when the people that flunked the exams get a second chance. (We’re all about second chances!!)
Right now, it’s closing up on midnight and the kids have been asleep for some time. Finnur has been busy in the kitchen tonight making ice-cream (!!!) and apricot-cream for a dinner celebration of Finnur’s late grandfather’s birthday, which is tomorrow night. No jet-lag for him yet! Meanwhile, I’ve found, much to my dismay, that I’ll need to find myself a hobby or something to do in the evenings, now that I can’t be on pins and needles about/working on upcoming classes/homeworks/projects… Hmmm…
We look forward to trying the results tomorrow night! Finnur maintains that he probably won’t make a habit of this though, although maybe, if this tastes good, I might attempt to twist his arm into a repeat performance (minus the coffee taste though) 🙂 .
