15 Year Reunion
This weekend will go down as one of the more crazy ones this spring. Not only was there a graduation, but Finnur and Anna took off for a family-reunion/gathering on Finnur’s side which was held some three hours (south)east of Reykjavik, at Steig, a farm (now also a guesthouse) where Finnur and his dad both spent some time when they were young. (And yes, Bjarki and I were supposed to go, but I got nervous over potential volcanic ash in the air, so we bailed.) But that wasn’t all. Nonononono. In addition to all this, there was a 15 year reunion from my old Junior College (MR) right after Pétur’s graduation party!
Mom very kindly offered to babysit Bjarki while I went and met people, some of which I hadn’t met for 15 years. Everybody looked splendid, and it was a lot of fun catching up with people. As a rule of thumb, most of my fellow graduates had 2-3 kids, although some only had one or none. In general people seemed to be doing quite well, at least those that I was on a speaking-basis with. The awkward thing about reunions is the ‘did we or did we not know each other well enough to be on speaking terms?’-conundrum. As it happened, our class had the strongest showing of all the classes, so I had plenty of people to talk to, which was great! 🙂
Here are a few pictures from the evening, taken on my phone.
I decided to bail shortly before 1am, knowing that Bjarki would be getting up around 7am and needing some tender love and care – well, a toilet trip and some food, and then I managed to doze on the sofa for an hour or two… Anyway, it was fun! 🙂
Pétur Breki Graduates From Junior College (MH)
My brother, Pétur Breki, graduated today from Menntaskólinn í Hamrahlíð, a ‘Junior College’ where students usually enter at 16 years old, graduate after 3-4 years, and can then enter University in their chosen field (no general subjects).
If the setting seems familiar its because his older brother graduated from the same school some three years ago. The ceremony took over two hours, and was mostly boring. Thankfully, the school has a fantastic choir, and they did their best to infuse some life into the proceedings. Sadly, there was no getting around reading up the names of roughly 190 students. Good times!
After the ceremony, we headed to Hulda’s place for a small gathering to celebrate Pétur’s achievement. The food was excellent, and a good time was had by all!
Of course I took many many more photos, and 130 of those have now been uploaded to PicasaWeb in full resolution. Click on the image below to access the PicasaWeb image website.
Hjartanlega til hamingju Pétur! 🙂
