Here are pictures from our last day on the Snæfellsnes-peninsula.
We spent Friday morning packing up and cleaning out the house. Lunch was therefore served outside.
While the kids snacked, Halli began to pack up the tent-trailer.
After cleaning up, we drove east for about 50 minutes to Stykkishólmur-town. When there, Adda and Halli went to pitch their tent-trailer while we drove around town. Neither of us had been to Stykkishólmur for close to two decades. While driving we came to this large hill, and Anna and I hiked up while the boys stayed in the car (Bjarki was sleeping).
Stykkishólmur harbor. The population is close to 1100.
There are a lot of small islands in this area.
While we were up there, a tourist boat set off on an excursion.
Finnur and Bjarki were down there.
The tourist boat, Anna, and a little lighthouse.
Anna by the lighthouse, plus a stupendously stereotypical Icelandic boy in the background.
Another gorgeous day!
Heading back down again.
The rock-face of the hill/mound was pretty. Can't remember the English name for 'stuðlaberg' (column rock?) though... Also, the crazy blue sky is that crazy blue thanks to my circular polarizing filter.
The rock face and the parked cars.
I wonder how long ago that small avalanche happened?
Flowers can be found in the darnedest places.
The rock/hill/mound from a distance.
Adda and Halli called us shortly thereafter, and we all headed to the local public swimming pool. It was really nice, and the kids looooooved the big slide. Anna and Hildur did nothing except climb the stairs, slide down and then go up again. Bjarki on the other hand needed adult help so he didn't go that many times (it was cold on the stairs!!) but he loooooooved it. Here we're walking from the public swimming pool (notice the fancy blue slide!!) towards the ice-cream selling gas station.
I want that!
Bjarki doing his ice cream justice, with a typical Icelandic woolen jumper in the background.
Exiting the gas-station, preparing for good-byes.
One last picture of the kids before we drove back to the capital area, while Adda and Halli waited for Halli's parents to join them over the weekend.
