Bjarki’s Birthday Party
We celebrated Bjarki’s third birthday a week later than originally planned due to unstable health-conditions (i.e. the stomach bug). This meant that the guest-list changed somewhat, but we still had a sizable crowd with lots of kids (especially young girls for some reason!!). Bjarki was suitably excited (read: delirious with joy) about getting presents, but also confused about all the people that were there.

Bjarki opening his first present of the day. I dearly wish I could have caught his joyous face on camera once the package was open, but my flash was out of batteries, so you'll just have to take my word for it that he was deeeelighted!

Bjarki discovered the Smarties (European M&Ms) early on, and from then onwards refused to eat anything else. In the end he refused to eat everything and just drank juice. I guess that's the birthday boy's prerogative! 🙂

Finnur made a delicious seafood soup as a starter. It went over extremely well, and was delightfully yummy.

A subsection of Finnur's family that attended . From the right: Ragnheiður (Eyrún's daughter), Hreiðar holding his Edda, and Hrafnkell, Ragnheiður's boyfriend.

A subsection of Hrefna's family that attended: Arnar, Magnea and Eyþór. This was one of the very few moments when one of them wasn't trailing the very active and adventurous Lóa.

Finnur lights the candles. I tried this chocolate cake recipe for the first time, but neglected to read all the way through the making of the frosting. Little did I know that it required being brought to a boil, and then cooled down slooooowly for it to stiffen properly. Instead it got cooled down in the freezer and then poured over the cake when it started semi-thickening. As a result, the Smarties were used as barricades to stop the chocolate from flowing everywhere! 🙂

It took two tries to get Bjarki to blow out the candles. We of course had neglected to train him in candle-blowing, and since we never have candles around the house, he was completely clueless as to what he should do. To help him out, Anna blew out his first set of candles, and then he ever so delicately blew out the second set of three. Awwww....

Chatting towards the end of the party. Since I was continually stirring the frosting, waiting for it to cool, I didn't have time to take a lot of pictures. But I think and hope a good time was had by all! 🙂
After the guests had left, Mr. Birthday-Boy was exhausted, and he went to bed the earliest he’s done since we got here, and still slept all the way through the night. We on the other hand used the opportunity of having Finnur’s parents home (they’ve been almost continually away at the various summer houses the entire time we’ve been here) and skipped and hopped over to Guðrún’s and Snorri’s place for a game night. Just like old times. More awwww…. 🙂
