My stint as a professional student (i.e. where I get paid to be a student, be it via fellowships or Research Assistant (RA) positions) began September 2000, and ended in December 2009. That’s a span of 10 years, and I figured a little table of events was in order.
First up: Before and After passport photos…
The comparison isn’t entirely fair, since I had no makeup during the (unplanned) passport photo taken in 2009, and the lighting of the latter photo is, well, not flattering. Nonetheless, I can’t really claim to be a spring chicken any more at the tender age of 32, with two kids in tow… 🙂
And now for the table of events:

2000 | Begin the MS program in EE at Stanford |
2001 | Hired as a RA by Dr. Ivan Linscott. |
2002 | Pass EE Quals, finish MS degree, begin the Ph.D. program. |
2003 | Surprise Martian surface echo detected during testing of Mars Odyssey’s telecommunications system. |
2004 | Working on analyzing the single echo signal. Begin writing a paper, but run into technical difficulties. |
