Slowly crawling together again

This is turning into a (lack of) health blog! The current status is that Bjarki’s kept everything down for two days in a row now, but is very cranky and pretty tired. This could be a side-effect of not eating much over the weekend, or … ta-ta-rah-rah… the sneaky sore throat that is currently bothering Anna and me. It’s the kind where it hurts just a little most of the time, but pings in with more pain here and there to remind us that we’re not quite healthy. Then of course it’s possible Bjarki has an ear infection (there was a little fluid in there when we began our travels), or that he’s teething. Oh, the joy.
One of Finnur’s nephews got diagnosed with a bacterial sore throat last week, and since that particular type of sore throat really disagrees with my psoriasis, I took Anna and myself in to the health clinic to get tested. For some bizarre reason, neither my first, nor my repeat test worked at all (no drainage to the test-paper), but Anna’s came out negative so we’re assuming we’ve got something viral. Oh, joy! 🙂
Oh, and the current status of our bankrupt, but still socialistic universal single payer system: I paid 1000 isk ($8) in “arrival fees” for me, and then 700 isk ($5.60) for the strep test. Anna’s was free. That’s it. There will be no “explanation of benefits” in the mail, and no haggling with anybody. Also, I just walked in off of the street (no appointment), and we saw the nurse in about 20 minutes (it would have been less if we had not dilly-daddled taking our shoes off, and let another visitor make it to the reception ahead of us…)
After running some errands, we returned home and turned the car over to Finnur, who took the two Annas, and his youngest sister to visit grandpa Eymundur. After the visit we loaded the kids into the car and had dinner with Adda and Halli. That was Bjarki’s first social visit since Friday night, but Finnur and I snuck out last night, also to Adda and Halli’s, for a late-evening game night. A total sanity saver if there ever was one! Special thanks go to the in-laws for babysitting. We could totally get used to this… 🙂
