Behind on blogging
I’ve been opting to nap with Bjarki during the day, instead of for example, catching up with the Internet(s)* and my email. As a result, I’ve been spending my customary “2 hours of solitary computer time before going to bed” on catching up with the Internet(s) instead of Blogging. Yes, shame on me!
So to remedy the situation slightly before actually heading to bed (my 2 hours are almost up so no pictures!) here’s a quick rundown of recent events:
Friday: I was a wreck after the long drive south, and spent 3 hours of the day napping with Bjarki, while Finnur took his grand-dad on a car-ride around town, and Anna hung out at my mom’s. Afterwards we went to Holla and Óli’s, along with Adda and Halli, for some delicious nutty-chicken for dinner, and a post-dinner chat. No pictures were taken that day.
Saturday: My dad arrived from England, and we hung out for a little bit in the early afternoon. We then headed to my aunt’s place (Hulda’s) for a large family gathering/dinner/potluck. The kids had a great time hanging out with all their cousins, and the weather played nice too.
Sunday: My ex-classmate, Íris, and her husband, Óli (we know a lot of Óli-s!) invited us to their newly built duplex for brunch. We sat in the beautiful house, and munched on fabulous food while marveling at the half-built and largely abandoned buildings that surround them. Hopefully the city will get its act together soon to make the surrounding neighborhood slightly less perilous for kids!
After Bjarki’s (and my) nap, we picked my dad up from where he’s staying and headed over to my grand-mothers (on my mother’s side, don’t ask). There we had coffee and “pancakes” while trying to keep Bjarki from destroying any valuables that are kept at his eye level. Afterwards we dropped Anna off at my aunt Hulda’s where she’s staying the night (after asking for it repeatedly). Next we dropped Bjarki off at home-base, and then we headed downtown and had dinner with my dad at some swanky restaurant.
After dinner, we dropped my dad off at his home-base around 9pm so that he could meet up with his brother who’s only in town for a short while. We then called our home-base and found out that Bjarki was already sound asleep. So, to finish off the day (surely three separate events aren’t enough!), we accepted Adda and Halli’s offer for a late-night visit, where we chatted and played pinochle until well past midnight.
Thus beings the last week here in Iceland. We’re already booked for dinner Monday through Friday, but there are peekaboo holes in the schedules in the mornings/afternoons and late evenings…!
