To Hvalfjörður
Finnur can’t take more than 30 days of consecutive calender days off for vacation (even though he’s got many more vacation days saved up) so he needs to work for three days before formally going on vacation. This Monday was day 1 of working “from home”, so to stay out of his hair, I took the kids to the Seltjarnarnes swimming pool with two of my brothers (Nökkvi and Pétur) where we met Margrét, Pétur’s girl friend.
I didn’t take any pictures, but the weather was perfect, sunny, mild (chilly) breeze, and the big board said it was 22°C/72°F plus or minus a couple of degrees. Anna wiped the boys out going down the big slide again and a again, and Bjarki wiped me out jumping into the very warm pool umpteen times as well as repeatedly loosing his feet and completely submerging himself while navigating the water around a tiny infant slide. I finally discovered a treasure trove of arm-floaties and when Bjarki discovered what they did (i.e. kept him afloat if he stayed still) his face split open into the most self-satisfied smug grin ever! 🙂
When we returned to my mom’s place (after the obligatory hot-dog outside the swimming pool, of course) Finnur told me that good friends of ours (Adda and Halli) were currently in a summer house just outside of Reykjavik, and that we were invited over to stay the night. We accepted, and got there post-nap and post-quick-packing around dinner time. We had scrumptious BBQ lamb for dinner as well as one of those “this is the life” moments.
