More family
Bjarki woke up at 6 am this morning, after a paltry 7 hours of sleep (we’d gone to bed at 2 am). He took one look around the room, saw how bright it was, and decided it was time to wake up. Finnur sacrificed himself until Granny Anna woke up at 8am. At 9am Bjarki found his way back into our room, and since he was rubbing his eyes, I decided to put him down again. No sooner had he fallen asleep than Anna woke up. She was promptly expelled from the bedroom, and the rest of us slept until Granny Anna woke us up at noon. To make a long story short: Our sleep-pattern is hosed up!
Item number one on today’s agenda was to figure out what the heck was going on with our cell-phone connection. We’d put in an order for our old number (867 2717) on Saturday, and were told it would be operational on Monday. Nothing worked on Monday so we called them again, and were told it could be “1-2 working days”. On Tuesday we called again and got a weird story where something was missing and that they’d have to contact the original sales department, which could be troublesome because that department was so busy it never answers the phone(!!!). Today I called again, and the conclusion was that the order had never entered the system (something about a missing signature) and that we would have to go to the store again, and redo the order. So we went back to the store, redid the order, and didn’t have to sign anything. It’s supposed to start working before noon tomorrow. We’ll be waiting with baited breath…
After the phone-store visit we went to see Finnur’s grand-father, Eymundur, who’s now living in an old-people’s home. He seemed to be in good spirits, and we arrived just in time to have cake and milk with him for tea. Unfortunately we couldn’t stay long to chat because Bjarki was determined to examine the entire building, and I kept having to run after him down the corridor.
After visiting Eymundur, we went to my mom’s place, but nobody was home. The logical conclusion was that they’d all gone to my mom’s sister’s place so we headed there. Sure enough, mom and the brothers had fled the chilly sea-side for the balmy warmth of the inland (10 minutes away). Anna was thrilled to meet her cousins and Bjarki took a special interest in 10 year old Ásdís Sól. Mom and my brothers left early, but we stayed on and had yet another scrumptious lamb dinner. We would have stayed longer, but Bjarki was barely coherent because he was so tired, so we headed home.

When we came back to home-base, my first order of business was to plaster a second layer of black plastic bags over the layer of bags already over the windows in our bedroom. Granny Anna maintains that the kids will get used to the excessive sunlight once we nail down a stable schedule, but since I’m not sure that a) we’ll ever manage to nail down a stable schedule during these weeks, and b) survive one more 6 am wake up call, un-esthetically pleasing plastered windows it is. I imagine this will be reported with eye-rolls for years to come… 😉
