Barnasturta
Ég bauð nokkrum stelpum úr skólanum heim í dag svo við gætum sturtað Söruh og Jane í heillaóskum og gjöfum vegna barnseigna. Að amerískum sið eru haldnar veislur fyrir barnsburðinn, en ég var of upptekin og annars hugar í nóvember í fyrra til að skipuleggja veislu fyrir Söruh í tíma fyrir fæðingu Jasonar. Hann mætti því í veisluna (en fékk samt enga köku) og ég er nú ennþá meira á því að krúttlegar-eftir-fæðingar-veislur séu miklu skemmtilegri en taugaveiklaðar-fyrir-fæðingar-veislur. Jane er komin þrjátíu-og-sex vikur á leið með annað barn, svo að hún tók þessu með ágætri ró.
Á meðan stelpurnar lögðu undir sig stofuna fór Finnur með krakkana til Augusto. Þeir fóru víst úr á leikvöll með þau og svo í heita pottinn í bakgarðinum. Þeir hafa örugglega verið rosalega krúttlegir saman svona með tvö börn, enda búum við nú eftir allt í Kaliforníu! 🙂
Á meðan ég man ætla ég að skutla upp uppskriftinni að gulrótarkökunni sem ég bjó til í dag og tókst bara rosalega vel, þó ég segi sjálf frá. Þetta er held ég að miklu leyti sama uppskriftin og Holla notar, en í upprunalegu bandarísku einingunum.
Gulrótarkaka:

2 bollar hveiti (flour)
2 tsk matarsódi (baking soda)
1/2 tsk salt
2 tsk kanill (ground cinnamon)
3 stór egg (large eggs)
2 bollar sykur (sugar)
3/4 bolli grænmetisolía (vegetable oil)
3/4 bolli súrmjólk (buttermilk)
2 tsk vanilludropar (vanilla extract)
2 bollar saxaðar gulrætur (grated carrots)
1 (8-ounce) dós af mörðum ananas, afvatnaður (crushed pinapple, drained)
1 (3 1/2-ounce) dós af kókóshnetuflögum (flaked coconut)
(1 bolli saxaðar pekanhnetur eða valhnetur)*sleppti
Leiðbeiningar:
Line 3 (9-inch) round cakepans with wax paper; lightly grease and flour wax paper. Set pans aside.
Stir together first 4 ingredients.
Beat eggs and next 4 ingredients at medium speed with an electric mixer until smooth. Add flour mixture, beating at low speed until blended. Fold in carrot and next 3 ingredients. Pour batter into prepared cakepans.
Bake at 350°F for 25 to 30 minutes (lengur ef bara tvö form!) or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pans on wire racks 15 minutes. Remove from pans, and cool completely on wire racks. Spread Cream Cheese Frosting between layers and on top and sides of cake.
Krem:

1 bolli smjör, klipið niður (butter, softened)
1 lbs (2x8oz) rjómaostur (cream cheese, softened)
4 bollar af sigtuðum flórsykri (powdered sugar, sifted)
2 tsk vanilludropar (vanilla extract)
Leiðbeiningar:
Beat butter and cream cheese at medium speed with an electric mixer until creamy. Add powdered sugar and vanilla; beat until smooth. Þetta er 4/3 sinnum upprunalega uppskriftin, sem þýðir að það er nóg eftir til að skreyta! 🙂
Sund og heimsókn
Við Anna skutluðum Lulu heim til sín rétt fyrir hádegi, og keyrðum því næst í sundlaugin sem er rétt hjá. Það var gott að komast aftur í sund, en ég hef ekkert farið í rúman mánuð. Þegar heim kom þá var Anna svo þreytuleg að ég fór upp með hana að lúra og hún steinsofnaði, sem hefur ekki gerst síðan í haust. Um kvöldið buðum við Augusto og Söruh í kvöldmat, og síðan kíktu Todd og Torie við eftir mat.
Merkisatriði dagsins var að við fengum síðbúna jólagjöf frá Augusto og Söruh, Wii tölvuleikinn World of Goo. Er þar kominn “Lemmings” leikurinn í nýjum búning, og er leikurinn alveg jafn ávanabindandi og forverinn. Í stuttu máli gengur leikurinn út á að maður á að leiða slímbolta frá A til B yfir alls konar landslag. Slímboltarnir hafa alls konar eiginleika, þeir festast saman á ákveðinn máta eða fljóta til dæmis og trikkið er að púsla þeim rétt saman. Gaman gaman!
