Gúlp gúlp gúlp gúlp…
[The cardio-docs decided to stop Bjarki’s heart medication today (for the crazy fast heartbeats) to see if he’s “grown out of it”. There’s been no sign of tachycardia (the crazy fast heartbeat) for about 8 weeks now, and they figured stopping it now, when he’s hooked up to a continuous monitor, would be a better idea than waiting until he’s about to go home. So we’ll just have to wait and see what happens…
Bjarki repeated yesterday’s bottle-drinking achievement at noon today and downed the entire 52 mL bottle of milk without desatting. He even did a stint of suck-swallow-breathe-suck-swallow-breathe… instead of suck-swallow-suck-swallow-suck-swallow…BREATHE! And that was after nippling on “el freshly-emptied boobie” for a bit and getting 5 mL there. It has to be “freshly-emptied” since he’s still not adept enough to handle a full-blown milk-letdown, which literally drowns him causing a mighty desat!
Later in the day the eye-doctor popped by and declared his eyes “stable”, i.e. still stage 2 ROP (the link has neat explanatory images). The preemie next to Bjarki though has stage 3 ROP so the eye doctor ordered the ceiling light above him to be turned on at all times. More light apparently makes babies more prone to focus their eyes, which is supposed to beneficial, although preemies generally don’t like bright light very much. I hope Bjarki reaps some of those benefits without getting too annoyed at the bright light…
The most radical non-preemie activity today was to go on Lego.com and order a bunch of individual blocks. For some reason the folks at Lego just don’t ever put the good stuff in their big bins of blocks (magnets anyone?!) so we decided to remedy the situation. Ordering on a block-by-block basis was a little cumbersome, but we hope we got the right hubs for the wheels etc! Can’t wait to get those magnets though… mmmm…magnets! 🙂]
Ég hefði betur sofið aðeins lengur…
[Oh god, what a start of a week…
I woke up way too early (it seemed) this morning, stiff in my neck and head after a night of bad sleep and discovered there is no hot water in our shower. Eeeeek!
But it only got worse from there. After getting my daughter up, fed and out to the daycare I find her lunchbox sitting on a shelf in daycare where we forgot it on Friday. It had been sitting there in the heatwave throughout the three-day weekend… and had begun leaking its contents. I picked up the box and could immediately smell (without opening it) that cleaning the inside was going to be unpleasant. I didn’t want the teachers and kids to suffer through the smell today so I went back home and as sooon as I opened the lunch box this rather unpleasant smell (to say the least) escaped. And it only got worse as I opened each container. I’ll spare the readers the details but mention that I had to take a break twice, in both cases to go outside for fresh air to prevent myself from returning my breakfast – until I finally managed to empty out the box and throw it out the door of the house so I could concentrate on rinsing the food container with one hand (while the other clamped the nose shut). Yuuuuuck! The smell is still stuck in my nose.]
Úff, þvílík byrjun á vikunni…
Ég vaknaði upp fyrir allar aldir í morgun, hálf stirður í hálsinum og hausnum eftir lélegan svefn og kemst að því að það er ekkert heitt vatn í sturtunni okkar. Íííík!
En það var bara byrjunin… Eftir að hafa dröslað heimasætunni á fætur, gefið henni að borða og komið henni á leikskólann finn ég nestisboxið hennar í hillunni á leikskólanum þar sem við gleymdum því á föstudaginn. Nestisboxið var sem sagt búið að sitja á hillunni í hitabylgjunni yfir þriggja daga helgi… og innihaldið farið að leka út. Ég tók boxið upp og fann strax á lyktinni (án þess að opna það) að þetta yrði ógeðfelld hreinsun. Til að hlífa kennaranum og börnunum við lyktinni fór ég með það heim og um leið og ég opnaði það gaus upp þessi heldur betur ógeðfellda lykt sem ágerðist eftir því sem leið á hreinsunina þegar hin ýmsu ílát voru opnuð. Ég ætla að hlífa lesendur við smáatriðunum en kannski minnast á að ég þurfti að tvisvar að bregða mér út undir ferskt loft þar sem ég var næstum því búinn að skila morgunmatnum þangað til ég náði að tæma boxið og henda því út um dyrnar á húsinu svo ég gæti einbeitt mér að því að skola af matarílátunum með annarri hendi (með hina haldandi fast utan um nefið svo að engin lykt slyppi í gegn). “ðððððöööööö!” (hver var það sem sagði að það væri ekkert orð í íslensku sem byrjar á eði?) 🙂
